Anyone else heard this? Is there any substance at all behind such a claim? So far as I could work out from my 'source' the claim seemed be based on nothing more than it appearing in Kent first and Kent being next to France. |  |

That was what some sources originally said but I believe they were confused with the mink strain.
It seems pretty conclusive from genetic analysis that this strain is likely from mutations that occurred in the UK.

It would have escaped everywhere before the travel ban were implemented. They might have not luck slowing the SA variant but the UK is just too interconnected globally.
The US case (I posted it earlier) must be a secondary transmission which means it's too late to stop it moving across the US pretty swiftly.
It's really not good.
