Patel, being Patel, is short on honesty and common sense. To fill the database gaps that now exist will cost a pretty penny and a lot of resources.

Britain is simply less after brexit. With no seat at the table in Europe, the States won't be interested us.

On the positive side, we've perhaps finally recognised our diminished position in the world. Although I doubt it.

For balance, I believe we have recently climbed from 6th to the 5th largest economy in the world, overtaking India.

Decent point, and if we are the first set of nations to get near to full vaccination against Covid-19 (providing it is effective) we could become even more powerful. But that will probably require a more multicultural and welcoming society - might not be what some Brexiteers were looking for.

Wasn’t that achieved whilst in the EU?

If the U.K. outperforms Europe then that is going to be a factor in any referendum affecting Scotland or NI.

It might also prompt JRM to and others to move their fortunes back into the U.K.

Will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next decade or so and how the EU and U.K. (and their component parts) are affected.
