We don’t own the stadium and have very few players of any value from an accounting perspective (because they’re homegrown) so £40m seems a ridiculous figure.
There would obviously be no debt as ME would write it off but I can’t imagine there’s anywhere near that amount of value in the club. |  |

This is only speculation but the only thing I could imagine where that sort of figure might come into play is there’s a sale price and either a guaranteed bond to ME on Premier League promotion or it’s say £20m/ £25m with the remainder as a war chest for a new manager.
