I think anyone going on a cruise is very brave or a bit daft. I know they are loved by many but the last year or so has just reaffirmed that they are mobile germ factories waiting to strike down all on board.

Very much depends what time of year you're there - and whether gardens, markets, cuban food etc are your sort of thing - or being mugged and shot. | |

I'm not the type to go on cruises anyway, but even if I were the number of cases where disease went round one of those ships would put me right off. |  |

If you are there between December and May, try to get to a Miami Heat game.
Whenever I'm stateside, I'll always try to get to an NBA game at that time of year.
That is how entertainment is done, if the Americans can bring any where near that kind of energy to ITFC it will be amazing. | |

Rent a car. Head down to Key West for a couple of nights on the most amazing drive over the ocean (it has everything from history to low culture!), then meander your way back, past Miami, up the coast to the utterly unforgettable NASA museum at Cape Canaveral. If there is any major sport taking place in Miami while you are there, do it - it's quite an experience. | | | |

It's certainly a very different experience to football over here. I must admit there is something I like about the gritty, mid-November Millwall away type fixtures. Cold weather, wrapped up, train beers, underlying threat of being knocked out around the ground.
The pomp & ceremony of US sporting events is quite a spectacle. I always turn into Homer Simpson when I'm at any sports over the pond. My record was about 7 hot dogs at a Yankees game. | |

Jai-Alai. A sport like no other.
In the early 2000s, it was held in a wonderfully derelict large hall, but I think it is now situated in a couple of Miami casinos. Still worth a peek. For reference, there’s a quick shot of a Jai-Alai player at the 15-second mark of the Miami Vice title sequence. | | | |
