Kelty Hearts in play off to join Scottish League 09:16 - May 23 with 4750 views | Keno | Intriguing game in Scotland today what appears to be basically a village team could end up in the Scottish league I'm not sure what their story is nut they are managed by ex international Barry Ferguson Their big rivals of Hill of Beath Hawthorns

Kelty Hearts in play off to join Scottish League on 11:30 - May 23 with 1956 views | WeWereZombies | Ah, reading down the Wikipedia page I can see where you got Hill of Beath Hawthorn F.C. (whose rivals I would have thought would have been Cowdenbeath) from... I have sort of noticed Kelty Hearts out of the corner of my eye, as I take a passing interest in Scottish league football, but have never taken the time to look them up until now. Thanks for the prompt. And (pathetic old git that I am) finding myself with a disrupted sleep pattern and awake at two in the morning decided to watch Dumbarton v Edinburgh City on BBC Alba as I had had half a mind to watch when it was on live last Thursday but then life got in the way. The interesting thing about Dumbarton's ground is that it is directly under Dumbarton Rock (castle on top, controlled the Clyde in ancient times), the bizarre thing about the ground is that there are no stands at either end but a generously expansive stand at the side. I fast forwarded through most of the game and what I saw was of a surprisingly low standard but what struck me looking at the stats was that each side managed just one shot on target - sound familiar? So my resulting theory is that the lower the abilities of the players then the more cautious they are, the more each side cancels each other out. Oh, and Dumbarton survived an Edinburgh City fight back to remain in the SPFL League One for another year.

its seems a very small village to have a team on the brink of the league. I see they are slap bang in the middle of Fife, isnt Fife to Scotland what Norfolk is to England?

It's true that many Edinburgers look down on Fifers, perhaps a better comparison would be the way some Londoners look down on Essex...without realising that Essex has many more facets than TOWIE.

I worked for Standard Life for a while and got taken up to Edinburgh quite often which may explain my view of Fife!!

Berwick Rangers F.C. were relegated out of the Scottish Professional Football League in 2019 (although they do still play in the Scottish Lowland League.)

In the interest of fairness the same happens in the English leagues. Nailsworth, Gloucestershire has a population of 5,794 is where Forest Green Rovers (EFL League Two) are based.

That is greater than the population of Dingwall, home of Premier League club Ross County. [Post edited 23 May 2021 14:13]

Although, in fairness, Ross County's catchment area is probably a few times that of Forest Green Rovers and without much competition from other clubs for support (apologies to any supporters of Inverness Caledonian Thistle but I've seen the buses full of people leaving Dingwall after a match and on the way back to Inverness.)

I think a local business man, with big ideas, took them over about 5 years ago. Everyone took the p?ss, but it shows what can be achieved. They also won their league last year but because of Covid no play offs took place, so good luck to them.

That they’re not in the EFL...but if you’re going to go down that road you can throw Chester into the mix too!
