Kit question. 20:29 - Jun 2 with 1239 views | jeera | In what way does the goalie wearing a kit that could be spotted from space benefit the Austrian side? It helps them spot their own keeper, but surely it aids the opposition more, as in when looking for a spot to place a ball, with his positioning standing out a mile. I don't expect the GKs to wear camouflage, but I am missing the point of this one. Is it to blind the opposition's strikers? [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 20:31]

Kit question. on 20:31 - Jun 2 with 1199 views | Mullet | Yeah. The last bit sort of. The same idea as all those crazy patterns in the 90's when kits and everything else was better. Rushing out towards you, they are meant to put you off by creating a kind of startle response. I guess at elite levels even if it's nonsense just credible enough to make it happen once in a thousand times, it might be time when it costs the other team an important victory etc. Personally I think it should be the law that goalkeeper kits are as loud and psychedelic as possible.

Kit question. on 20:32 - Jun 2 with 1199 views | SpruceMoose | Heard a Neville Southall interview once where he said he never liked bright goalkeeper shirts because he thought when strikers glanced up in a one-on-one situation, or for a quick shot, it gave them an edge. Mind you, even back then dear old Nev could be seen from space, shirt or no shirt. [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 20:34]

Went to a gay bar once in Cape Town and a very camp regular pretty much immediately questioned why I was there as a straight man. When I queried why he was so sure I was straight he replied "No gay man would wear a shirt like that". Was a good night despite my choice of shirt :-)

Kit question. on 21:06 - Jun 2 with 1008 views | ArnieM | I’d heard that Gk’s wear bright shirts because when the striker looks up and sees where they are they actually subconsciously shoot at the GK - towards the bright shirt. Edit: A bright color seems to grab a player's attention and subconsciously make a player kick the ball towards the bright color rather than away from it. As a goalie, you want the ball to come to you. https://yoursoccerhome.com › the-re... [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 21:07]

They might also be meant to stimulate a new and totally necessary craving response in juveniles, followed by a purchase response in parents, a discard response relating to last season's version, and a consequent pollution response somewhere we try not to think about too much?
