Serious post. Bullying on this site. 17:22 - Jun 3 with 13249 viewsOriginalMarkyP

I do think recently that a bit of a bullying culture has developed on here. It's a bit ugly to be honest.

Nothing wrong with joking and having a debate, but there are some on here who attack everything certain posters on here say, regardless of whether they agree with it or not. And that's a bit crap.

I'm not part of any #BeKind movement but maybe think for second about the person on the recieving end of your 'witty retort'. Some people have a pretty low threshold after a lot of time locked indoors with the pandemic, especially ones with pre-existing mental health issues. Maybe think about how you word it, it doesn't take more than an extra minute.

We all support the same team after all. COYB!

Not sure bullying is the right term. I’ve yet to see any sustained targeting of certain posters. The political stuff descends often into abuse but that’s not bullying.

I think it mostly because they are not grown up enough to understand if you don't like someone its best just to ignore them and leave them be as opposed to antagonising them at every opportunity in an attempt to score brownie points and look good in front of the rest of their clique!!

There's two, maybe three categories of people, who get the 'attack everything treatment'.

1. Trolls and Dreadful Behaviour apologists

2. The 'endless' posters. You know the sort - the ones who continually brainfart every thought they have and Tweet they read. I'm not saying it's deserved that you get a gob full for doing it, but by 'heck is it frustrating when a good thread falls off the page because of a stream of endless Twitter nonsense.

3. The occasional unlucky b*gger who gets off on the wrong foot and never recovers.

There's something you can do about the first two(category 1 - Phil eventually bans then, category 2 - stop posting as much sh1t), not so much the third.

I don't think there's bullying on here. I do think people can certainly be overly harsh in how they respond to others on occasion, and posters react in different ways to that.

BlueWorldOrder was obviously upset by a post earlier, but it wasn't the case that a number of users went after him or anything like that. And I removed the post when I was informed of it and spoke to the person concerned. It's also worth adding that the post was very tame, nothing nasty, just a negative comment on his post.

As per a number of other threads, not relating to BWO. There does seem to be a habit among a group of users to post something contentious, then fail to give any argument when that's challenged by other posters before claiming they're being bullied when they continue to be challenged by a number of other users. If you're going to post something contentious, then I don't think it's unfair for posters to expect to be challenged to present an argument.

Well, I'm an old git too. You would maybe think differently if a member of your own family took their life because of bullying at work. And they weren't young either, 38. No one ever pushed them around or physically assaulted them. But they killed themselves just the same.

But maybe until you have first hand experience of something like that, it's very easy to hold a similar opinion to the one you do.

I agree with this. Also, please be careful not to make assumptions. I did this a couple of months ago re a contributor and a fellow poster very kindly PMd me and let me know the score. It made me a little more careful.

It’s a message board open to all, but I like to think it’s an inclusive one. To be that it requires thought and, despite my notorious lack of it, a little patience sometimes.

Just thoughts.

I agree with you that people need to back up their opinions. But I do think people get rounded on. It's very nuanced, but then bullying is. (I'm not referring to anyone jumping on me btw, because it's water off a duck's back as far as I'm concerned). But being a little less aggressive to people you don't agree with is no bad thing to practice.

Most of those getting the most aggressive resposnses are generally those who've been openly fishing for arguments and/or posting dog-whistley nastiness for a long time. They get the 'nasty' treatment because people are mostly s1ck of their bullsh1t. Every so often one steps over the line properly and Phil bans them.

I would definitely agree there's an element of bullying here, as there is everywhere.

Whether it takes the form you're thinking of, I do not know.

You could make your feelings known the next time you believe you're witnessing it though.

Maybe if it's an autistic chap who's clearly not coping too well, or if you see someone either making prejudice posts or backing those who do.

That would great, and better than starting threads about the subject rather than helping to address it.

Be active in your convictions man.

My only point of contention with you on this Phil is that more often than not its the same person/s challenging everything in a willingness to be right and in turn they are backed up by the same people/s so much so it could appear be on request at times, surely these people would be better thinking "that fool doesn't know what he is on about" and leaving it there, instead of what looks like from the outside the same old bunch of people just picking on someone again!!

Bullying at work is a totally different issue. This is a fans forum and some idiots will try to upset you. But we all sign on anonymously and no-one can hurt me personally because they know nothing about me. I normally only ever post anything ITFC related and if people don't agree or ridicule my views that's fine no real life harm done.

If you see someone posting something that is clearly disgusting, are you a bully for challenging them?

Should we just keep quiet and hope it goes away?

If you see someone in the street suffering abuse, or anywhere else in your life do you turn away and tut a bit?

I am going to guess (hope) you wouldn't.

To be honest, when your last avatar was of an American flag burning, you're not all that unfamiliar with provoking a reaction yourself.

If you really want to see bullying on TWTD you would have had to be around in the day when board members had their wedding photos posted on here by others.. Now that's bullying

Which is what I would expect from you. You wouldn't tolerate it.

Some of the supposed bullying on here is really just posters who have witnessed someone posting on a regular basis, over a period of time, the kind of material that represents an unpleasant pattern.

Someone who doesn't witness this regularly may well misinterpret what follows.

That reaction to disgusting behaviour has been 'called-out' as bullying quite a bit by people who really haven't the foggiest. That's all.
