Owen Dale - An Insight 10:17 - Jun 27 with 4933 viewsTomTheWriter

Once again we have been linked with Owen Dale, but it feels like his asking price increasing every week. I can’t see him wanting to join Wycombe, so it would be between us and Portsmouth.

With the valuation he is commanding, and the possibility that there might be better out there, maybe in the Scottish League or in L1 itself, I don’t know what Cook is going to do about this one.

Anywho, here is my article below that I produced last month, including details on: goalscoring record, type of player, and being a very good ‘back-post’ winger.

600k doesn't sound too bad if he is quality.

We would expect a lot more than that for our best players.

Probably closer to £1million now, and rising after they had to let Ryan Wintle go. For me, if we are willing to shell out big on one player this summer, then it should be Charlie Kirk from Crewe, not Dale.

Guy is a natural left winger, who played the whole season with Pickering bombing past him like Cooks wants from his left back. 6 goals and 8 assists, plus 7 goals and 14 assists the season before. He is the guy we should be vying for IMO

Charlie Kirk was certainly the one who impressed me for Crewe.

Not trying to be edgy, as I'm really curious about this player... However, has the sun ever been right about any of our transfer business? (that is to say when they're the ones breaking it)

I'm still waiting to see this supposed warchest the the S×n claimed Evans was going to offer the gaffa, which far to many people took as the gospel truth.

It's just paper talk at the moment, especially in terms of fees.. I'll trust Cook on the signings.

I'm not too fussed, most of us have very superficial knowledge of these signings, unlike cook.

Remember him scoring an excellent goal against us when Drinan equalised late on. Always been one of Crewe’s best players for the past few seasons.

It’s not just the fact he can score goals from the wide areas, it’s that he is so comfortable cutting inside and allowing an attacking left back to run past him, and the fact that the 8 assists this season was his worst return since 2017.

Some has been incorrect, but a good amount has been truthful. Nixon broke the news early June that we were eyeing up 2 players, Jeffers and Ian Craney. Got that one right.

I’d guess that around 60-70% of the pieces that the Sun/Nixon puts out do come true quite often. There was no, if I remember correctly, prior knowledge of Harper and Bonne however.

Yeah I reckon so as well. Shouldn’t be spending around seven figures on someone with only 1 good season under there belt. Is a great player, but is also a massive risk

I have a family ties with Crewe, and I have to say having chatted about him this morning, the fees being discussed seem like a bargain. This could very well be a player we could have a quick and lucrative turnaround with.

I see it as a very very low risk transfer, I have to say.

How does the family rate Charlie Kirk, and the comparisons between him and Dale?

It feels like with someone of his/their age, and ability, that one season with 10 goal contributions and a promotion on their CV would see their value sky-rocket. Guess that’s the risk you have to take, like Posh did with Clarke-Harris last summer.

A lot of comparisons between Kirk and Colclough - both with bags of potential, but perhaps not quite reaching for that potential. The impression is that Dale seems more consistent and focused.

Both good players, Crewe's academy continues to thunder on.

Both players seem to have bright futures, wouldn’t be surprised if Crewe do everything they can to keep at least one of them this season. For me personally, just because of the gaping hole on the left, Kirk would be my choice if we were to look at them.

Slightly different to compare. Jackson went from L2 to Championship. Dale would have another season in L1 and already plays in th3 same formation.

Very true. Jackson’s jump from L2 to us in the Championship might have put a lot of strikers off from doing that themselves. My only quarm about Dale is that this is his first ‘season in the sun’ as it were.

Still, it’s nice to be linked with these kind of players rather than the Stephen Ward and Oli Hawkins type players.

Probably because I’m not writing a blog solely for entertainment on TWTD, I created a website to help me further my chances of working in the field of Journalism?

Jackson hasn't done it in league one unfortunately.

Phil is a journalist and it is his form of income. If you make it as a journalist, how would you feel if people drive traffic away from your revenue generating streams. You're leveraging his site to promote yourself.

Perhaps a better way to get into the industry would be to build up contacts through people like Phil.

Think Portsmouth will only have the money if they sell first.

Think Crewe are playing hardball in a depressed market. Dangerous game with a player out of contract next summer.

Think you’ll be getting that with a lot of players/teams this summer. Same with the Colby Bishop situation at Accrington.

I have a hunch that Donacien/Jackson will end up back at Accrington as make weights in a Bishop deal.

Keep up the good writing. As long as Phil is OK with blog links, fine by me. You're adding to the forum rather than directing people away from it.
