That ball was made of rock.

You can hear the thump when it's kicked.

Pass back to the goalie and he picks it up. NO free kick.

I think Sir Alf needs to bring on Harry Kane at half-time.
This Hurst bloke doesn't seem to be doing much.

Imagine the West Hams if we do.

"We won the World Cup" or some other old nonsense.

I couldn't handle that.

At least we'll be able to remind them it was with a Town manager I guess.

The scary thing is, I remember many of the German players names as well, Haller Weber, Beckenbaur (obviously) Seeler Overath. Tialkowski

The game isn’t that different either, more crunching tackles maybe, certainly no pressing, perhaps the most notable thing is the slower pace

The big difference for me is that the ball is passed forward.
Not much passing to the back-four and all that faffing about passing it around at the back.

It’s the impatient passing forward that has resulted in England being a bunch of failures for generations.

Sorry to labour the point.

But you really didn't want to be kicking that thing about any more than was necessary.

In-patients?

Probably shouldn't be playing to be fair so hard to blame them for failing.

*insert something about Ipswich doing it for years regardless*

Yellow and red cards introduced in 1970 World cup did for us.
We couldn't constantly foul and get away with it.
We were quite good at that.

Or heading it. Half the team went onto to suffer dementia in old age.

One of the best rule changes in the history of the game.

It’s all that fcking Liverpool team of the 80s ever did.

Martin Peters went on to play for Naarich so I think the heading affected him very early.

I think the failure in 70 was Sir Alf’s mistake in taking off Charlton when we were 2-0 up against the Germans, allowing Beckenbaur the freedom of the park thereafter.

We had an original leather thing complete with pig bladder and laces that could gash your head when I was a kid.

When it rained I had trouble even getting the thing to roll along the ground!

People would think it funny to throw the ball into the air for their kids to head and then watch them get flattened by it.

That is the understood wisdom.
Beckenbaur himself said Charlton had stopped him playing.

Why isn't the BBC showing this?
