People who went yesterday 18:30 - Aug 11 with 2612 views | Hipsterectomy | Did you catch the PA guy calling Saturday our “best atmosphere at home in years”? Couldn’t tell if it was a complete lie or a joke being it was 18 months since a proper game at home

Might be wrong but wasn't it Robs decision? He said he wanted to go to games as a normal fan with his family?

[EDIT - I’m sure he tweeted something about the club not contacting him but can’t seem to find it, have seen a couple saying it was his decision though] The club never contacted him about coming back so he thought f**k it! [Post edited 11 Aug 2021 19:13]

Ah it was from the TWTD story... “At the end of the season before last I missed several games and I was getting a bit disillusioned with it. Not the job so much as the team’s performance really,” he admitted. “And living up here [in Norwich] as I do, it’s a long way to travel, a long way to travel just to be disappointed, not enjoy the football, the expenditure and all the rest of it. “With the Covid thing, I said to the guys there that maybe it was a good idea if I sat that the 2020/21 season out because Foz [Stephen Foster] was there on the spot willing to come in and do it voluntarily, not too much pressure really because there wasn’t all the pre-match, the half-time stuff, it was just very basic. Foz was happy, I guess he could see the games and keep his hand in. “We kind of left the door open really, ‘I’ll take a season out and we’ll see what happens in the future’. “But then I didn’t have any contact from the club, I know there are more important things than the PA announcer, all these new execs coming in, a new manager, signing new players, that’s top priority, I’m some way down the list of priorities”. PA Man Chandler Hangs Up Mic 9th Jun 2021 13:05Town’s long-serving PA man Rob Chandler has revealed he will not be behind the Portman Road microphone next season and instead will be joining the ranks of the Blues' season ticket holders. 31

Yep for sure, I’m gutted he’s not doing anymore. He was a real part of the match-day.

Might just need time to settle in, its a different form of 'broadcasting' than he's used to.

Some are lucky that the PA doesn't work near them if it was Bavin. Sadly I'm not one of those. There is nothing worse than an announcer at a football ground who knows nothing about football (Bavin). If nothing else, Foz knows Ipswich Town and football.

People who went yesterday on 21:10 - Aug 11 with 1882 views | The_Major | Make no mistakes, if you think of the voices of Ipswich radio over the decades, then Foz is definitely one. Lest we forget, the Headbangers Ball was a long time ago. Depending on how far back your memory with radio in the town goes you could probably go as far back as Andy Archer and Nigel Rennie, and then Peter Robinson and of course, Bryan Knights, the aforementioned Mr Chandler, right through to Mark Murphy and Brenner today. All these voices say "Ipswich" to me, like Foz does. I suspect though because he's naturally softly spoken this isn't the right gig. Shame, but there it is. Probably wouldn't hurt to let Mr Murphy have a go.

Give the fans a go. Cant do any worse than the current fella. Enter a competition. £5 entry. Winner gets the mic for a game.

Doesn’t read like a completely closed door to me… more like a “I’m still here, I know you’ve got other more immediate higher priorities, but give me a call…”

I think Mike Bacon on KOA said it was the best he’d heard it in 20ish years. I must admit it sounded good on iFollow, but most people on here have said it was rubbish so not sure what’s happened there. Maybe MB was in some acoustics sweet spot.

Have to say I was surprised that it was suggested the atmosphere was poor, was very loud at the start and for most of the first half from where I was - about two seats away from Mike - even if it drifted a bit in the second half. Was certainly louder than usual, from memory.
People who went yesterday on 11:33 - Aug 12 with 1120 views | PassionNotAnger | Was definitely a much better atmosphere when the fabulous "Lambo" banner was around and then the fabulous celebration with Lambert on the pitch on relegation day Funny old world eh?

I think the 20 year thing is a massive stretch, the first month of Hurst was really loud and the first half of the season before mainly good. 2014-15 was outstanding for atmosphere though, best since Burley I think.
