First half spell some of the best football we've played for years 22:10 - Aug 17 with 947 views | SouperJim | Edwards and Harper almost unplayable, we looked like a side a couple of divisions above them. Bonne unfortunately missed the chance to effectively kill the game, but we are improving quickly. Better results are only just around the corner.

Think you think we were better than we were. it was really only 10-15 mins. What worries me is once teams work out how to play against us Cook cannot react and we get done by the opposition managers

There's much work to be done, we're too easy to play against just as we were last season.

The opposition commentary is always a decent yardstick. They were over the moon to only be 1-0 down at half time and rightly so, Edwards cut through them time and again beating 2 or 3 each time before playing a dangerous forward pass. Harper pulling the strings on the edge of the box was reminiscent of Magilton at his peak. Not punishing them when we were so far on top cost us, but if we can play like that regularly we will be too good for most at this level.

But isn't the last line the big problem? We showed promise for brief spells against Morecambe, Burton and Cheltenham but couldn't sustain it - and when the opposition worked us out we had no answer.

Unless you do the basics and out work the opposition, you won’t beat anybody. Every team is going to be right in our faces. Why wouldn’t you? Get stuck in lads and the points are yours. They always fold. No guts. The reality in three league games we have got one more point than we deserve. The players are going to have to work a lot harder and so is Cook. The honeymoon for him and them is over. He’s got the players he wants and it’s now up to them to deliver. I stand by what I said. He should have to the end of October. If there is not a vast improvement by then his position has to be reviewed. Basically he’ll have to be replaced. I don’t just mean results, but also in performances. We should not be trying to pinch wins against teams in this league. We should be making other teams’ life hard. We aren’t anywhere near that at the moment and it has to change. I wonder if improvement in our sports science dept., which will inevitably take time, will help when it comes. I didn't see the game - did it look like our players tired quickly?

I agree completely, but as everyone knows we are a work in progress.

It really wasn't that good. These are commentators that won't have watched much pretty football in L2 and non-league. Little do they realise it's actually pretty ineffective. They would probably have enthused about some of Lamberts side ways football between the centrebacks. But it achieved zilch.

no players ran out of ideas and Cook is being outmanaged by his opposite number at the moment. No plan B, no willingness to change from his favored formation. It's not working and hence we have a problem because Cook does not seem to know how to change it. Sports science isn't going to win us games over tactics and formation.

I think this perspective is exactly what's wrong with our support at the moment. Like it or not, we are an established 3rd tier side who need to earn the right to beat Cheltenham. With a brand new team that will take time, but there are signs that once we do get our act together, we are going to be too hot to handle. People need to get a grip on their disappointment that we've not turned into world beaters overnight and get behind the team. There is much to be optimistic about.

Absolutely this. About a year ago, we were 3-0 up at Blackpool at half time and could have had more. We have played well in halfs plenty of times in recent years. It doesnt count for much.
