Watching from Madeira today 10:21 - Oct 23 with 1665 viewsearlsgreenblue

I wondered whilst reading this morning about fans abroad, if anyone is on our lovely island & might be watching or want to watch today’s game.
So many fans are abroad & I love to see, where & how they watch, I’ll be tuned in for sure, regards to you all, & in Suffolk at FPR. COYB.

Great friends of mine own the Irish bar in Funchal and will put the match on the big screen if you ask them.

I know them, breakfast on a Sunday whilst my wife’s at church with them, do you have Cambridge links……I know they have another pub there?

They own the Earl of Derby in Cambridge.

They used to have half a dozen pubs in the city but sold up most some time ago when they moved out to the Island full time.

I would be there tomorrow if I could. Sadly I can't take my pension until 2026. A bit worried that house prices will have risen too much for my budget by then. I read somewhere they rose by 17% last year.

For sure, they are going up, still a nice place to be had from 250€ k though, elevation makes such a price difference, in my opinion, above 250m it’s not a 12 month a year living thing. I’m 195m, another chap on this forum is around the same, that’s got to be your aim if you like it warm 365.
Just don’t be duped into a nice place at 500m that’s super cheap, that’ll be why!

I love Funchal Airport. Really spectacular, and definitely scary landing there in a strong wind.

I love Madeira, but I sh1t a brick coming into land. Never experienced anything like it.

As much as I love the place, Sao Miguel in the Azores just about beats it in my opinion

I was stranded in Madeira for an extra day 4 years ago as they shut the airport owing to the strong crosswind.
Still considered the 9th trickiest airport in the world at which to land & I can only imagine what it must have been like before the runway was extended in 1972.

I still plan a trip to Madeira Marcus. Currently in Granada, Spain. Well worth a citybreak.

It's the Cristiano Ronaldo airport these days isn't it?

No good comes of being named after an airport.

Just ask JFK or John Lennon.

A visit to the boatyard under the runway is worth doing, make sure you’ve checked flight radar first & go when planes are coming & going………that’s phenomenal to think what’s above as they touch down.
