How do you go from Saturdays display to last nights? 11:30 - Nov 24 with 891 views | unstableblue | Baffling Yes of course Rotherham are a far better outfit than Sunderland But to a man, barring The Fridge, and excepting Bonne (who was given zero service last night), every single player looked scared, off form, slow, lacking in desire and error prone. A lot of you weren’t at the Stadium of Light, but we looked confident, strong, comfortable in our roles, slick on the ball.. more dynamism was needed yes… but we looked a strong side. Last night we played an aggressive and well drilled team, but that doesn’t justify coming up with (barring Bolton at home) the worst performance of the season. Tuesday nights under the lights seem to suit us. And at Wycombe where we came up against an equally strong first 20mins from the opposition we had the belief and steel to raise our game and batter them. We looked completely lost. I go by what I see on the pitch, not on prejudice. Wycombe, Oxford and Sunderland showed real promise. And last was ‘how soon is now?’ It was the NOW to stand up and be counted. We fell horribly short. We need a minimum 5 points from the next 3 league games and a statement win in the FA cup. Edmundson was visibly frustrated at the dross around him last night. At least Edwards came on and showed some intent. Evans, Clements/Penney, Toto should not remain in the team. I was disgusted after the Bolton display, but Cook and the players turned it around. Last night was appalling. No more excuses, we need a run. As I stated if we are still 7 points off the play offs come the 1st Jan, we’ll have done well. It’s now 8. Come on Cook AND players sort it out As for the fans last night - awful [Post edited 24 Nov 2021 11:32]

You could have had a formation and system defined by a team of Robson, Mourinho and Klopp last night but if the players are that lacking in confidence, energy, desire, basic technical ability then it just doesn’t matter I am all about getting the tactics and system to make a team better than the sum of its parts, about giving you a framework to prosper even when some of the team are little out of sorts. But if you cross that line with that body language, with that inherent fear to seize a game, to go and grab that ball. So I’d blame Cook for poor man management first and foremost - because the teams demeanour last night was shocking Going and watch the first goal… pathetic

The only diference being that we were playing Sunderland who are a really bad side on Saturday and Rotherham who are a decent side on Tuesday. The fridge was superb on both occasions. Morsy was good on both occasions as well. Conclusion - we are a better team than Sunderland but a worse team that Rotherham.
How do you go from Saturdays display to last nights? on 11:47 - Nov 24 with 787 views | itfcjoe | Because Sunderland are in a terrible run of form, including a draw with 10 man Shrewsbury last night and Rotherham are good. And we aren't good - every now and again a side will not do anything to stop us from playing and we will look excellent - but sides with organised gameplans can stop us quite easily, as has been shown in the last 2 weeks. We've had 3 thumping wins this year, outside of that (Lincoln aside) we haven't had a result which is above bar, but had plenty which are significantly below par. We aren't very good quite simply, and Cook is going to bear the brunt of that soon

Clements made two errors on Saturday, I lost count last night. Penney came on and added to the list. Passing into touch! Miscontrols, weak press, miss passes This was a team with its head gone… and not the performance level from the stadium of light

Seen a lot of stick for Clements which I think is a little harsh. He did okay first half and was at least trying to get forward. Yes he was at fault for the second goal but he wasn’t the only one found wanting.

You weren’t at Sunderland away, to compare the individual player performances and body language to last night. I will repeat it again the body language and desire of the players from the kick off yesterday was not the same as Saturday. There was something wrong. Of course Rotherham had a far better shape and set-up than Sunderland to counter us, Sunderland went deeper and there wasn’t a high press. But last night our players looked scared and very poor in possession. Rotherham gave us more time second half, we had high possession. We had players passing into touch. I’ll give you an example we had 4 overloads on our left wing second half. They were situations of real promise, the lethargy in the player movement against a tiring Rotherham was criminal… there was no desire and intent and the crossing was National League Level poor. This is a Cook issue as well as the players, he has to motivate them and get them in the right head space. I would agree that system was also not working last night. Rotherham took Chaplin and Bonne out of the game. And with weak Clements and Donacien partnerships with Fraser and Celina we had nothing. But that was time for Evans to grab the game which he failed to do. If everyone in the front 4 is marked… evans and Morsy needed to fire up and come deep and then break the lines… ALL FECKIN NIGHT LONG THEY STAYED UP THE PITCH IN THE CONGESTION

Clements got unfair stick at the stadium of light for what really was only two errors Last night his head had gone and he was full of errors and gave away possession often The team collectively had completely lost their heads. Bolton cl@sterf@ck for me was a system/shape and rusty partnerships issue Last night was inflexible tactics but most of all a collective set of very low par performances If you don’t turn up to a game without more desire and belief than your oppositition, if you don’t want to win it more… you will lose
