I'm not necessarily convinced anyone has lied there, and I think Ashton has chosen his words very carefully.
Just because the manager is free to select whatever team he wants, doesn't mean that the pool from which he can select isn't limited.
From what previous posters have said, Andy Rolls has been the gatekeeper of whether or not a player is fit enough to be eligible for selection, so it would stand to reason that there may be gatekeepers of other factors. |  |
