Penney interview in the EADT - interesting! 19:00 - Jan 3 with 2474 views | Vic | Is it just me or do his comments shed a little light on how things had gone downhill during Cooks time? What sort of training was being done? And I thought Cookie was supposed to hot on training being really hard work! “Since he’s (KM) been here we’ve had some really hard work on the training pitch and it’s been a tough few days,” Penney said. “It’s been great to work with him and hopefully we can kick on now. Training has been different and we’re all enjoying it because the sessions are sharp and the standard is high.

Penney is the most likely player to be on the bench when either Coulson returns or a new LB is signed up - so a bit of bottom kissing is in play to tug at the manager's heart strings. Sounds like McKenna has different methods as you’d expect and he’s putting them through their paces to see what he’s got to work with. Noises were training was good and enjoyable under Cook.

I wouldn't read too much into it. The same thing was said when Cook took over from Lambert. Standard footballer response to a new manager coming in.

Penney interview in the EADT - interesting! on 19:15 - Jan 3 with 2214 views | Churchman | It’s an indicator, but nothing more at the moment. I’ll be interested to see what comes out of the woodwork down the line from in particular former players and employees. After Evans’ time, the views of the likes of Lee, Dyer etc were interesting and possibly slightly more objective than Penney’s are at the present time re the new management over the old. Interesting though and nothing would surprise me.

I think your comment about different methods is probably the key. If McKenna is bringing in techniques and routines currently in vogue at the top end of the Prem, that is likely to be a different style to Cook, with his main experience being in L2, L1 and the Champ.

KMc was running the MUFC training sessions, so you would think he'll impliment the same here. and it must be a hell of a step up from, as you say, champ/L1 training (albeit, cook is/was a good manager, just not with us)
