Queen Elizabeth II. 70 Years The Monarch. 00:14 - Jun 2 with 3301 viewsStochesStotasBlewe

I was born in 1960. She has been Head of State for 8 years longer than i've been on planet earth. She has served the nation with dignity, wisdom and been a great ambassador for the UK and Commonwealth during her reign.
GSTQ.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I agree with your last sentence. She has trodden a very fine line and admire certain aspects of how she goes about things. I do wonder what happens next with Charles then William. It could be the end of it.

I have never been a monarchist and never will be. It is basically a Victorian institution in this country and for me not relevant in the 21st century. It’s all a bit of a soap opera, but my principle objection is that with a monarchy and a whole pyramid of privilege that sits underneath it, including the House of Lords and honours system, how can the country move forward?

On the flip side, the alternative is some form of President style Head of State and looking at turnips like Trump, Biden, Macron, Putin that doesn’t fill me with joy either. If a monarchy in this country is to survive, it’s going to have to change and lose the burgeoning numbers of the royals along with the fawning lickspittles and toadies that surround them.

As an aside, I was passed over again for that knighthood for services to nobody. Forever a pleb it seems. I blame the misses for pinching a sheet of bog paper from Buckingham Palace (now framed) when she did one of those garden party things a few years ago. Oh well, maybe end of the year….

I admire the way both she and her publicity machine have managed to convince the gullible that she actually cares about them.

How can the country move forward? You haven’t noticed the urge to move backwards to âge of empire and forging trade deals with Cathay and Mesopotamia once the shackles of EU servitude were cut?

Personally I suspect the only way forward is an enforced age of retirement. Having a doddery geriatric who’s health will now steadily fail even as the nation celebrates seventy years of servitude is plain daft in the 21st century. The idea of an eccentric pensioner taking over the reins of reigning also seems odd. At least the half brother of William showed one way forward - minor Royals can look elsewhere for a meal ticket.

Thanks SSB. There seems to be a lot of bile and hate on the forum today towards the Queen/monarchy. Regardless of Royalist or Parliamentarian leanings, I see no justification for that. Also plenty of ignorance on display around monarchy and history, but there it is. Even the elephant bloke has emerged. Oh well.

Me too Church. Crazy isn't it? Dedicate one's whole life to nothing in particular and still have to wait for recognition behind a veritable raft of do-gooders (some do-no-gooders) and sportspeople. Pah!

Totally agree regarding the bile, you can have a difference of opinion but where does it say you resort to 'industrial language' to make a point. Totally shocked by the lack of moderation on these issues on this site. Maybe it suits their view of things.

The suggestions seem to be that Charles (possibly as King George VII) plans to cut back the monarchy significantly. Reducing the numbers on the payroll, removing some of the pageantry and "otherness". Aiming for something more like the Danish and Dutch models. Trying to make it appear less of an anachronism.

A UK President would never be like Trump, Macron or Putin. They will always be a ceremonial figurehead, as with countries like Germany and Ireland, with actual power continuing to be wielded by the Prime Minister. It will just be an elected role rather than a hereditary one.

You can blame the PM for the lack of knighthood - it's his committee which produces the list.

Not really into royalty as once they only took power because they killed the weak. I think its more all the hangers on but they are no different to anybody else really.
Also have the same flaws but are protected by powers a common man / woman don't receive
I get more excited by Ipswichs

It's perfectly possible to have an apolitical head of state e.g. Ireland. Rule 1 should be that the UK President may not be a former or current member of the Commons or the Lords.

She was classed as a minor in the US courts. Andrew was allegedly ‘introduced’ to her several times, including in the States. I’m not sure whether the minor label refers specifically to Andrew’s interactions with her or is from one of the very many other ‘introductions’ arranged by Maxwell.

Either way, it’s a disgusting case of grooming and sex trafficking in which the abusers have received far more protection that the victim.

But not above the age of consent in parts of the US where offences are said to have taken place (New York, the US Virgin Islands). However, this was a civil case for compensation - settled out of court, rather than reaching a judgement - not a criminal prosecution. He hasn't, as yet, been convicted of anything.
