Now do the same for the higher profile stars of the men’s game who swear at the ref nonstop. No? Thought not.

I agree, there should be zero tolerance of referee abuse at all levels. They have to get a grip of this in the games which are televised, the powers that be fail to realise that’s the tutor for the vast majority of the football audience.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

As I said on another thread, it's the physical contact with a referee which has made this more serious. This leads to standard minimum suspension of 112 days, and the abuse towards to ref has clearly compounded things. It was clearly not deemed to be an assault which leads to a minimum suspension of 5 years. In the circumstances, perhaps she was lucky not to be charged with the more serious offence, which may explain why she and the club accepted the lesser charge. Things have clearly been beefed up since the Di Canio days, which is why, whilst you may see professional players surrounding referees these days, physical contact is a bit of a no-no.

Suspect they would if a male player slapped the hand of a ref.

It's not something I've seen happen.
