ITFC mount Rushmore picks... 21:02 - Jun 17 with 1946 viewsRIPbobby

If ITFC were to have a 'mount rushmore' i.e. the 4 presidents carved in stone. Who would they be? For me we have had 3 big successes over history and I have somehow pic 4 from them. Hmmm. Luckily the last 2 are quite close together so I can probably double up. Mine would be...

1. Ray Crawford.
2. Ted Phillips.
3. Johnny Walk
4. Paul Mariner

Quite harsh on a lot of our stars over time, but my selection is based on goals.

Crikey that's a tricky one.

To narrow that down to four means putting together a structure that involves putting candidates into categories, laying out some strict terms for qualification, and then devising a filter system to break down each group until left with a few to vote on.

What are we basing qualification on? Popularity, type of role played at the club, impact of presence at the club...?

Good luck with that.

I’ll go a little left field.

John Cobbold
Alf Ramsey
Bobby Robson
George Burley

The selection is based on who I think have made the biggest contributions to the club.

Bit harsh on Mills and Scott Duncan, but that’s the way it goes.

Maybe we should do a TWTD Mount Rushmore as well! ;-)

I think you've sussed it.

Not really. George was also one of the club’s best ever players so he represents them too.

No John Lyall - No George Burley era.

Before Lyall the club was stagnating. 7000 attendances. Getting us to the inaugural Premier League season gave Ipswich the sustainability we have thirty years later.

IMO of course.

Using that principle, what about Bill McGarry? Or John M Cobbold whose meeting in 1936 was pivotal in moving the club to professional status. Without Scott Duncan’s influence, would we have made it to the Football League before the war?

All great people along with goodness knows how many players, but I’m sticking with my four!

25 years posting here and this is the best thing you have ever posted.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Could carve the heads on the hill going down from one of the golf tees down to what’s left of the pond.
Would need to clear the gorse out of the way though.

Or have it on Broomhill overlooking Ramsey's old gaff and Valley Road.
