Her policies, as announced, are simply incoherent. The population - individuals and businesses - are crying out for interventionism to help with energy costs (for example), where targeted government action is being used in most other countries. Tax cuts are not going to help the lowest quartile.
Mass civil disobedience is looking like a powerful countertool- if 10m people cancel their energy DDs, it is no longer a problem for the individual but for the system.

Her obsession with power at all costs will be her downfall.
She's been incompetent at every ministerial job so far and now she has the keys to the whole lot.
Frightening and they are dismantling the checks and balances that would have previously stopped idiots like her.

Someone is going to have to borrow money to pay for increased engery costs in the domestic market
the choice is between:
- the poorest, who will borrow short term on credit cards etc to keep the heating on and be crippled by it
- the state who can spread the burden and have more inventive ways of clearing it over time
but money has to be borrowed, no two ways about it

Ok - either state pays and then has to find the money somewhere (obviously taxes as it is how they get money) or poor people pay
The state can borrow too (and has increasingly been doing so). It is cutting taxes (as well as cutting spending) that has led to this party having record levels of borrowing. It will cost longer term too. The policies of this party are to shrink public services for the benefit of the rich who will have a lower tax burden.

This party isn't going to be in power come the end of 2024 though so longer term the tax take will have to increase as the country wants better public services

That is the hope. Although the tax burden will also have to increase anyway to pay for the debt that they have racked up. Ironically some time ago they stated their intention to cut the debt.
If a party of Government is to manage with increased taxes, they are going to have to be very clear about the benefits of proper investment in public services. I am not convinced the current version of the Labour Party is there either.

Or getting those who earn more to pay more in tax. Like better-functioning countries do.
Taxing the very rich - depending on your definition - is rarely the answer to solving holes in government finances, because there simply aren't enough of them & many of them manage their tax affairs astutely. The burden of tax rises inevitably falls on the middle income earners. That having been said, Truss's idea of dealing with rising energy costs by cutting taxes beggars belief in its stupidity. As has been clearly pointed out, this does nothing for the neediest groups who can't find extra money to pay their energy bills. I can only assume that Truss thinks that a tax cutting agenda will play well with Conservative Party members & therefore she will be PM, which looks likely. The really scary thing will be if she puts this policy into effect with an emergency budget. She didn't getmy vote.

There is the thought that Truss currently has her eye on the senile bigots who make up the majority of the Tory party. Pander to their stupidity/greed then change tack once in number 10.
It should not be too difficult to work out.
More so since she saw how stupid brexiters and red wallers were. Promise them anything, even stuff that is blatantly impossible to deliver and they will swallow it.
There is the thought that an idiot electorate almost obliges politicians to lie.
The sad reality is that a huge number of the cretins now bleat that brexit has not failed, it has not been delivered. The promises they made have not yet been enacted..... due to a combination of Remain treachery, wokiness, the EU, Covid, inflation, the Jubilee, CH4 not being sold...etc
Anything but accepting their stupidity was played up to.

We need more of a Henry VIII approach. You attainder the wealth of the very rich, and if they protest you cut their heads off.
As the wealthiest 10% of the population owns 50% of the net wealth of the country (and the top 1% have on average £3.6m each), this policy of mine has much to commend it.
And that's before we get started on corporate wealth.
Vote Facters. Sensible policies for a better Britain.
