For perspective, last time I looked it up, to be in the 'top 1%' you needed total assets (including house, pension) of about £500k.

For perspective, last time I looked it up, to be in the 'top 1%' you needed total assets (including house, pension) of about £500k.

Income is easier to measure & to be in the top 1% of earners you need £160k (or £120k to be in the top 1% of UK adults).

The Oxfam statement is about the world's top 1% and bottom 50% in wealth, not the UK's.

The top 1% of earners worldwide is, according to this piece, over $34000

Edit: that piece was written 10 years ago, so it will be a bit higher now, but the point stands, a middling western income will be top 1%

The idea that you can use a private jet (5-14x per person more polluting than a commercial flight) & that's OK if you agree to plant a few trees has always seemed absurd to me. Those who take private jets to conferences & lecture us on climate change is hypocrisy of the worst kind.
