Somehow, they're better than us.

If I was the owners, after splashing out all that money, I wouldn't be overly impressed.

They've gone down the loan route, we haven't.

Because that’s how football always works, right? Most money = most success.

Bit like Forest last season? Which could cause issues if they do go up.

They will probably be waiting till the season finishes before drawing conclusions, rather than the end of October.

Likewise... not looking forward to the 19th Nov. We really do need a 20+ out and out striker.

Well, quite. It depends what you're looking for. If it's short term, the loanee option might work best. If you want to build a team that can sustainably evolve into a Championship team without requiring huge investment post-promotion, you take Town's route.

Correct. Town just need to concentrate on their own games. If Pilgrims are that good then so be it and at least they’ll be beating all the rest.
We just need to make sure we come 2nd.

Why not? We don’t have a divine right to be the best, regardless of how much we spend. Let’s remember that we are still only 18 months into this ‘project’ - let’s be patient and trust the system.

Although strangely happier we’ll be away from home at this point in the season

Firstly, if we finish second to them or anyone else, I couldn't care less, so long as we go up automatically. I'm more interested in Sheffield Wednesday and Peterborough, although of course I can't say I wouldn't have been pleased if Plymouth dropped points tonight.

Secondly, good as they are (and at the moment they are very good!), they went off all guns blazing last season, momentum and confidence carrying them. They were unlucky to have their manager poached of course, but when they lost a couple and some momentum they really limped to the end of the season and of course missed out on the play-offs altogether. Injuries will effect them more, Schumacher may be lured away and it'll be interesting to see what would happen if they go 2 or 3 games without winning.

For all that, their home record is phenomenal, Schumacher is - like McKenna - a very intelligent manager and it further proves how we are going to need every point we can get as this promotion race is going to be close.

lol, what?

you wouldnt be happy being 2nd after 17 games, with a squad we own (TJJ aside) as opposed to 4/5 loans that arent the building blocks of a team building for the future?

Looks like it's working too. And most of those loans are for the season. So they won't be slowing down any time soon.

Long long way to go.

A third of the way through, give or take. Plenty of time for even little dips in form to make a big difference. Course, can happen to Town too. Plymouth are so relentless and fair play. It surely can't last all season though.

I think Town have a little bit of complacency in their swagger. We are superb to watch for large parts but seem to turn off our concentration at times and give away sloppy goals. They all know this, and plenty of time to iron this out. More concerning but hopefully also something that can be worked on is our vulnerability to high balls in the box. Missing Burgess and Leigh probably.
