It's the one time of the year I will venture into a bookies and put a bet on. Always have a flutter on the National. Dont know why. I have utterly no interest in horse racing really. But the national is exciting to watch if you've got a horse or two in it.

If you don't get all 5 WITH precise finishing times I am going to remind you of your failure in every post forevermore. I think that's how it works, right?

As long as those fetlocks get a lick of blue paint, all will be forgiven for another year.

For those of you who do fancy horses, remember that your hobby can lead to a lengthy gaol term and universal hatred.

But maybe not hatred from the horse? I’ve heard the bond between beast and rider can be quite special.

Didn't go with this in the end after reading Rommers' preview. Cheers Rommers. Gone for: Lifetime Ambition 33/1 Velvet Elvis 25/1 Vanillier 18/1 Our Power 22/1 All EW. 7 places WITH best odds guaranteed - Vickers Bet (unlike Sky who don't offer that on extra place races)

I’m very very keen on Vanillier if he gets round. In fact I’d go as far as saying if he gets round (it’s a big if with his jumping), I can’t see him beat. Only Corach Rambler is better handicapped and he’s going to have to weave through horses with fancy footwork coming from off the pace. Our Power has a strong chance too. He’s got a lovely profile for the race. Age, weight, stays well, solid jumper, will like the quicker ground, improving, should improve for the marathon trip and has gone well in big field handicaps before. If it was a box ticking exercise you’d have a long way to go to find a box he doesn’t tick.
