That’s why the team that finishes 3rd often fails in the play offs. The psychological hammer blow added to those tired legs is often just too much to deal with. I fear for us if this happens. We NEED Weds to drop just one more game to take that pressure off.
Burnley have clearly taken their foot off the pedal since winning promotion, and have only picked up five points from twelve. If they needed to keep winning the probably would have. We've 'caught up' with them because they could afford to relax against sides fighting for something.
Agreed that I would happily accept a draw at Barnsley right now if offered. And it's going to be very tough on whoever finishes third. Possibly fourth too - Barnsley would finish on 94 if they win their final three games but, as long as Plymouth and ourselves (barring a huge GD swing) manage one more win each, they can't catch us.

Though the only time we won the playoffs was finishing third.
I just hope we aren't destined for the bolton and Barnsley games that we thought we were.
This team has so much belief. Barnsley game - get something and I think we will go up whatever.
If we lose, then probably have to win last two, which I think is still very doable.

I absolutely agree if we get something at Barnsley we will be all but there. But as I’ve just said in another thread, this is why I couldn’t believe we postponed the game. We now go into this huge game with the least preparation time after playing yet another top 6 side. It’s fine now, and we have to get on with it, but personally I feel it was suicide to postpone it. We shall see Tuesday night. But trust me I’m 200% rooting for our boys to do it. ðŸ‘

How would you feel if we had to go into Tuesday's game without Burns and Broadhead?

I don’t want it to be us, but I think if we did finish third we would win them - the only nagging doubt would be memories of 1997/98 and whether opposition teams would take a different approach in the playoffs and find a way to stop us. But the team looks unstoppable at the moment with enough goals in it to win any match and defensively strong enough to keep teams out.
I can’t imagine how Plymouth would feel if they finished third at this point, but the way that they have bounced back from setbacks would set them in good stead.
Wednesday look a bag of nerves and would need to try and focus their frustrations to get them through.

We've now big away scalps under our belts going to face Barnsley... rather than if we'd played them before. They were actually then the big form team. Now it's us. They've also had a busy schedule as well. We're in a good place and we need to stop looking for negatives all the time. Put everything into getting 3 points on Tuesday and we can look at getting promoted next Saturday. The players can squeeze another big performance out when they're high on adrenalin and confidence. None of this we'll settle for a draw nonsense. We go for the win because that's what we're best at and gives us the best chance of promotion. We could well be better of playing a top six side who need to win. A draws no good for them. Should be a shoot out for who's the best team. If we want to be top two....expect to beat other sides wanting to be top two. As good as time to play them as any when our dander is up.

This is actually a myth The position with the largerest percentage win in the playoffs is third place. This take into account every play-off since 1990 over all divisions

Saw this other day and thought it was interesting how the points tally for third has fluctuated over the past decade with some unbelievably low totals in amongst them.
The highest 3rd place points total being 90, which has already been matched/beaten and the prediction they’ve shown is Sheffield Wednesday getting 92
