HSBC benefiting massively from a £1 giveaway from the Bank of England and looks to be doing very well out of spiralling interest rates that are crippling many households: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65332752

We definitely live in a well functioning socio-economic climate where ordinary people are valued and well cared for.

In other news....BP make £3.5 Bn in 3 months....the idle rich dress up for a fancy party......King Charles will wear a big gold robe.....and Labour will not commit to meaningful pay rises in the public sector.

With the 'godfather of AI' quitting Google and giving dire warnings about where AI is going unless 'bad actors' don't act bad (lol), it feels like we're headed for a great reset which is totally out of our control, just as the Earth's climate is about to run wildly out of control.

Maybe there's hope in this from an environmental perspective or from a socio-economic perspective? Maybe not, but we're certainly going somewhere new aren't we? And all the bankers and puffed-up egotists worshipping at the altar of the god of Capital care about is piling up more meaningless, transient 'wealth'.

It's a fair value gain of $1.5bn so a paper mark up in valuation from the nominal consideration it paid. It's not derived from cash. It was widely expected and not even news for people who watch the markets.

Oh cool, that's fine then. Can I give someone a pound and they uprate the value of my house by £1.5bn?

Yes if you have the infrastructure and risk appetite to take it on when it sits on the edge of total destruction.

Their underlying results are stonking tbf too.
