What a wonderful astute council Ipswich have. Of all days to start work on the area near to the George public house they pick the start of a two day Suffolk show. Not that I was going, but have been visiting Ipswich Hospital and frankly it's a shambles. Why does wherever you go in this Country authorities decide to do comprehensive road works when the start of summer begins and everyone is in their car trying to get somewhere. They talk about pollution and climate change. What do millions of cars standing for hours with engines run do for pollution or is it just when it suits ? |  | | |

well Ipswich will just shift the blame to Suffolk who issue the permits for roadworks, and would you prefer they worked on Sidegate lane during school term time instead ? Im sure all the Northgate/Sidegate lane school runners will love that.
the issue there is they have 4 way lights whose timings arent particularly well setup and lots of people who believe the only way to get around Ipswich is to drive.
years back Ipswich council run buses used to put on a shuttle bus from Tower Ramparts, for free to the Suffolk Show, it was often the open roof bus too. so something different, and before bus lanes were a thing even had its own dedicated lane along Felixstowe Rd and bus/coach park at the Suffolk showground to park right at the ticket entrance where you walked in. Combined with the police who actually used to do this thing called traffic management and directed traffic so there were no hold ups of note. and actually driving to the Suffolk show from Ipswich was seen as a bit odd.
They even had a one way system setup for several years, the keep left refuges around the junction up by the Nacton village turn off are removable for that very purpose, so you can turn that end of Felixstowe Road into a dual stacked road and direct people to and from the car parks quite easily onto the A12/A14. | | | |
