a new four year contract, presumably with a considerable pay rise, can we stop talking about every managerial vacancy in the context of, "Will they be interested in him?".

And can we stop talking about every managerial appointment within the context of 'phew!'

McKenna is looking very good, and clubs are bound to be interested, but if he went just a few days, weeks or months after signing a new contract I don't think any of us would want any manager prepared to do that.

He's here for at least one more season.

This.

That contract has put it all to bed, going nowhere, not for another year at least.

Or it's to ensure we get a good fee for him.

Oh if only I could believe that it would, frankly I'm surprised there isn't already a thread linking him with Sheff Wed.

All the contract has done is ensure he won’t leave for pittance.

He won’t go this summer now, obviously. But contracts rarely mean anything in football these days.

Agreed. Might come back to bite me in the arse but now he's got a nice new contract I don't think he'd consider a move unless a Premier League vacancy comes up.

If we were looking for a new manager at the same time as Leeds/Leiecester/Southampton they'd obviously be a bigger pull than us but I don't think it would be enough of a step up for McKenna to ditch what he's got here to take up a role like that.

Yes but what if he actually achieves something? Coming second to Plymouth with a £20 million head start is not the most massive of achievements.

Now he’s competing with two or three teams who might actually be considered better than Town and is in a more competitive division, prospective employers can better judge if there is some substance behind the man and his methods.

Assuming twelve prem managers will be toast within a year I doubt the hype will go away, assuming the franchise prospers under McKenna’s admirable but as yet unproven stewardship.

I don’t know. It’s kind of an achievement to be that miserable in the face of overwhelming happiness and positivity, or maybe not.

If I were as consistently negative as you, I'd be checking that your wife, (or sister), actually likes you.

Thing is, hes in his thirties. Hes not in his fifties and doesnt need to clutch at the slightest whiff of Prem management at this stage in his career.
If you've learned anything about the man, hes intelligent, measured, methodical and sensible.. He'll go when he feels he's ready to, and imo, it'll be to a top 8 Prem side..
In the mean time, hes got all the backing and support to bridge that gap here, in terms of experience and a stab at success.
Honestly, when teams like Leciester or Southampton get mentioned, I just smirk it off... Any coach going to those sort of clubs is on a hiding to nothing. They wont get given the time, to put the kind of blocks in place, that KM and co, are building here..
He's in a good place here, imo. Good backing, good working environment, loved by the players and fans alike. And although there will be some pressure moments. It's not the high pressure cauldron of expectation at a bottom of the table Prem side, or a recently relegated Prem side. Makes perfect sense for KM to stick around for at least a couple of seasons. Unless a really big side came knocking, like a top 8 Prem side. And with time on his side, I'm sure he'd only go if he thought he was ready. And that any challenges were achievable..It won't be a simple case of someone dangling a bag of money, imo.

I reckown he is on under half that. £500k is £10k per week. I cant see that.

More likely £300k surely which is about £6k per week.

You might be surprised. There was an EFL survey a few years ago and the average Championship manager salary back then was nearly £900k. That may be skewed by a few very well paid managers at yoyo clubs, but at least £500k wouldn't be surprising at all. And that would put him in the lower pad bracket.

Nuts. But payers get paid a lot more than that in this league, so it's only 'fair' from that angle (I'd pay the manager more than anyone as they're the most important person imo, but maybe that's just me).

Edit - anyway, we all know he's only been give an new contract so we can get more compensation when he signs for Swansea later in the week
