Could totally imagine that after the success of Wrexham (so far), someone has the idea of buying a lower league club and doing a savannah bananas type thing. Also you wonder how long people will be fascinated by Wrexham, e.g. if they were established as a League One club, finishing mid-table for 3 or 4 years in a row, that'd be a great sporting outcome for them, but not very showbizniz.

Hmmm. I thought it was a pretty weak article and the connection between the Savannah Bananas and Wrexham doesn’t work.
If he had linked it to the Harlem Globetrotters then the argument that it supplants the competitive sport falls away completely. That’s arguably added to the global spread of basketball and as a result the MBA.
Similarly, MLB is a massive sport. An alternative like this will get loads of fans but that’s not competing with major league itself.
Absolutely, matchday entertainment and celeb-owners have been added to competitive sport over the years and maybe the total product has got a little circus-like at times, but that’s happened before and after alternative forms of “sportainment” have come along.

I think Wrexham will soon get boring. And it was successful because it was a relative 'first', if anyone else looks to do the same, will it be as well received?
Also had the promotion of an A List actor, who managed to convince people that it was an underdog story. Which it wasnt.

Without reading this, my assumption is that they conclude that sport will cease to be sport and the name will need redefining due to financial imbalances and political motivations!

Leapt from what is essentially a circus act barely masquerading as sport to Wrexham which is clever marketing of proper football club and then to the end of sport as we know it.
The Americanisation of our sport is an issue but a completely separate one and one the British public will not accept, the super league for example came closer to causing an all our riot across the country than anything else has done in a decade.
The desire of American owners to invest here shows that the culture, history and romanticism of the pyramid system is still the ultimate form of sport.
