Sad to hear of the passing of the legendary LBC phone-in presenter Brian Hayes.

I first came across him in the 70s when during school and then university holidays, and for a day out, I accompanied my dad on work trips to north and east London.
The following encapsulates just what he was like. It was compulsive listening, and unlike, say, Nick Ferrari or James O'Brien, he didn't come at things from a particular political angle.
"The broadcaster had a controversial reputation for his gruff style with callers, making it clear he did not suffer fools gladly - and though this ruffled some up the wrong way, he was well respected at the station.
