Town are set to look into reports of abusive Colchester fans in home areas during Saturday's game between the two clubs. U's supporters were visible throughout the ground during the Blues' 3-2 victory.

A number of supporters posted details of a large group of Colchester fans in the Greene King Stand on the TWTD Message Board, while another fan, Sam Durham, is reported elsewhere to have written to the club complaining at their presence and behaviour.

The U's fans, numbering around 20, were abusive and insulting to Town supporters in the lower tier of the stand, while fights are also understood to have broken out.

Town's director of communications Terry Baxter says the club will look into the claims: “We have yet to receive Mr Durham's letter but we will, of course, fully investigate the complaints and respond to him personally.”

The police made no arrests during the game, although 12 people were ejected. There were two arrests later in the day.

Away supporters in home sections was a common complaint during Town's spell in the Premiership earlier in the decade. Then the club told TWTD that, contrary to policy at many other clubs, they would not eject away fans from home sections even if they were wearing colours unless there were reports of trouble.
