New signing Alan Quinn says he wants to help the Blues back into the Premier League. The Irish midfielder signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Town earlier today.

Quinn told the club site: "Ipswich are doing well at the moment and are in with a chance of going up.

"Hopefully I can help the club achieve that aim. Everything is here for the club to move on and play at the top level.

"The manager has got some good players here and, having played alongside Jim at Sheffield Wednesday, I know what he is all about.

"He is a big factor in me coming here. I know he will want his team passing the ball around and taking the game to the opposition.

"I also know some of the Irish lads - Shane, Owen and Big Al - and I'm looking forward to my time here. It's a great football club."

Meanwhile, boss Jim Magilton has not yet given up on signing David Norris, despite Plymouth turning down the Blues' second offer for the midfielder. A third and possibly final bid could be on the cards before the weekend. Leicester are also still interested in the 26-year-old.

The Town manager is also still looking at making a second bid for Foxes defender Gareth McAuley, while he has confirmed that he has made no offer for Coventry striker Leon Best, although he says he is a player he rates and an enquiry was made regarding the former Southampton man.

Southampton have agreed a compensation package with the SFA which paves the way for George Burley to become the new manager of the Scotland side.

Elsewhere, former Town defender Georges Santos has signed for Blue Square Premier side Farsley Celtic.
