Wilnis Injury Shocker!
Wilnis Injury Shocker!
Monday, 2nd Apr 2001 13:37

Town defender Fabian Wilnis will miss tonight's Sky game with Southampton with injury and may miss the rest of the season. The Dutchman injured both his ankle and his knee in a training ground incident.

The Dutchman said: "It looks like I may be out for several weeks. I did a nice move and went past Alun, but as I did so he went heavily on my ankle. To make it even worse I then twisted my knee. I was in a lot of pain. It’s a cruel blow and I’m really upset about it. We have such a vital time coming up and I was so looking forward to the Southampton game. I’ll know a bit more about the extent of the damage after the scans, but it is certainly a very nasty double injury to take."

This is not Wilnis's first injury this season and he is cursing his bad luck: "Just before the Worthington Cup semi-final second leg at Birmingham I did my hamstring. Now this has happened at another very vital time for the club."

With Chris Makin signed Town have excellent cover at right-back. The Sunderland man looks likely to play on his preferred right side with Hermann Hreidarsson going to left-back.

Town are amongst a whole host of clubs being linked with Shrewsbury midfielder Jamie Tolley. The 17-year-old has already acquired the wonderkid tag with some impressive performances for his club this season.

Reports suggest that Town have watched the youngster several times while Cardiff tried to buy the player, who qualifies for both England and Wales, on deadline day for £700,000. This was turned down but Sam Hammam's club are likely to try again in the summer.

Tolley has made just 17 starts for his club and has scored two goals. He became the youngest player to appear in a senior game for Shrewsbury when he made his debut in November 1999 against Oxford at Gay Meadow.

There are two new poems from Neilski on the site. The first is entitled The E-Word while the second is a clerihew devoted to Hermann Hreidarsson. Read them at http://www.twtd.co.uk/neilski
