Returning keeper Richard Wright says it felt like his move back to the Blues was taking forever. The 30-year-old finally signed a two-year deal, with an option for a third, earlier today.

Wright told the club site: "It's great to be back here and it feels like I've come home. It seems like it the move has gone on forever. I was desperate for the deal to be finished and the last weekend has been the longest of my life. I thought everything was going to be done on Friday, but it dragged on.

"Doubts cross your mind about whether things are going to happen when a move drags on and I was literally waiting by the fax machine at the club for the forms to come in from West Ham today so that I could see the move completed. I'm delighted that everything is now done and I can't wait to get started.

"There are still a few faces around the place that I remember from before. I obviously know Jim - sorry, 'the gaffer' - well from before and he's a great character who can get the best out of the players.

"I'm joining at an exciting time as well. The club is moving in the right direction and everything is ready for the Premier League.

"It will be difficult. The Championship is clearly a tough league, but there is a lot of good feeling about the place. You can sense that everyone is very positive that we can get back in the Premier League very soon and that's my first priority coming here - to help Ipswich win promotion."

Wright came close to rejoining the Blues last summer, but the club are understood to have stalled on completing the deal until the keeper's representatives had found a new side for Lewis Price, who has the same agent.

Before Price's switch to Derby had been completed and with the new season approaching fast, West Ham came in and signed Wright from Everton.

TWTD first reported that Town were once again in for their former keeper in March when ex-keeper-coach Andy Rhodes was spotted at a West Ham reserves game. Boss Jim Magilton confirmed that the twice-capped England man was a target a month ago.
