Burnley Holding Parachutist Enquiry

Burnley's board are holding an emergency meeting this morning to find out why it took so long to retrieve the parachutist from the roof of the David Fishwick Stand on Saturday. The stray jumper has been named as Ben Cannon, a brigadier who is believed to live in nearby Todmorden.

Specifically there are concerns regarding why it took such a long time for cars parked on the cricket pitch next to the stand to be moved in order that emergency services could reach the parachutist. The Football League and the Health and Safety Executive may also launch enquiries.

Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher said: "There is going to be a full investigation into this.

"I don't want to comment further until I fully understand it because there are some mixed messages going round.

"There was a risk assessment prepared beforehand and that was passed by everyone so we need to investigate to see what happened.”

The parachutist escaped with only minor cuts and bruises, but delayed the start of the game by 51 minutes.
