McCall on Argentina Trip

Chief scout Steve McCall has revealed that he and international scout Simon Hunt watched more than 30 games during their recent trip to Argentina. The duo were looking for January additions to Jim Magilton's squad.

McCall said they took in matches at all levels from first team to youth games during their time in the South American country: "Between us we saw between 30 and 40 games. There are many similarities between the game over there and the English game.

"We have brought back DVDs for manager Jim Magilton to study, along with our recommendations, and it will be up to the manager and club owner Marcus Evans which players we take things further with.

"A shortlist has been made, but much depends on work permits, passport situations, fees involved and whether clubs are willing to sell. We have identified players who will be good enough to play in the Premier League.”

Both Town scouts were in Argentina separately for 12 days but met up in the middle of their stay. They were also joined by Argentinian scout Horacio Lorda, who advised the club when they signed Mauricio Taricco from Argentinos Juniors in 1994, and he is continuing to keep a watching brief.
