Mackay Denies Priskin Bid
Mackay Denies Priskin Bid
Sunday, 2nd Aug 2009 14:15

Watford boss Malky Mackay has denied claims that Town have made an offer for striker Tamás Priskin. Yesterday TWTD revealed that Blues manager Roy Keane and coach Tony Loughlan were spotted at Vicarage Road watching the Hornets’ friendly victory over Parma.

After the game, Mackay said: “There is nothing at the moment in terms of Tamás. I am seeing what you are seeing in terms of press speculation but until such times that something would come in, then I would have to look at it and then react to it.”

While Keane and Loughlan were seen at Watford on Saturday, the Town boss has also denied a TV report claiming that a bid had been put in.

Meanwhile, Keane has confirmed that he still feels he needs to add to his squad to make them promotion contenders: “Over the last few years you always look at the teams that were relegated and generally two out of the three tend to bounce straight back.

"So, in terms of promotion, you look at the teams that came down, then you look at the Cardiffs, who just missed out, and you have got your Sheffield Uniteds.

"I would like to think that we will be in the mix if I can get a few more players. The Championship is very difficult - 12 weeks of the season you are playing three games in a week, so that is the challenge we face.

"I do have the option of one or two loan players, and that is always nice to have in the back of your mind, but I still need a core of Ipswich Town players."

Keane has said he is after two more front players with the midfield and defence looking more established.

Can't believe people keep mentioning David Healy - nowhere near good enough.
I also believe that Pablo and Lisbie will be forgotten men and will not figure unless forced to through injuries etc. In my opinion whether we like it or not we will play one up front especially away from home which is fine as long as we keep a clean sheet. It is vital therefore that we sign a massive centre back to partner MaCauley. Pim may serve this purpose but would prefer some experience. I would offer £500K for Priskin and if turned down forget it. He is OK but not a world beater. See Rhodes had a poor 35 minutes yesterday - time will tell

Wellbeck would be great and would improve the side - David Healy, Priskin, Lita in my opinion would not !

I agree with StowTractorboy and I think Bobo Balde could do a job for us for a couple of years !! Ex Celtic too so you never know............??

My ideal team considering its 6 days till the season starts would currently be....

Wright
Wright Balde McAuley Delaney
Healy
Walters Norris Martin
Billy Sharp or Danny Wellbeck & Stead

Subs
Balkestein, Wickham, Garvan, Counago, Supple

So note to KEANO - Get Sharp Get Wellbeck and Get Balde - Simples !!!

Think my previous post was removed for using a suspect word - sorry am new to this !!

roo, do you know nything about football or listen to anything about footbal , balde is having a trial with wolves as far as i know , healy is useless as much good as lisbe is and SHARPE had one good season with his previous team before sheff utd, the most promising thing you have said in your comment was the one about welbeck

wickham/counago stead

the positions with more than one player are places were it depends on availabilty and form of the player! plus norris captain.

Billy Sharp would be a huge gamble IMO. He went from a 20-30 goal a season striker and joined the club he loves in Sheff Utd and it still didn't work out. In fact most Sheff Utd fans think worse of him than our fans do Lisbie. Either it was some cruel twist of fate or he just can't cut it at this level!

Priskin would be fantastic. Stead could get 15 goals a season probably, which might be enough for one quality striker?

to ljkitfc = I like all of us love our football and have our opinions and most express them in a constructive manner.

you may not know that a player on trial at a club - ie balde at wolves does not mean he has signed !!

Healy - i think you may have got the wrong one in your head ? did you not notice the healy in my team is the holding midfielder - perhaps not the one you thought ?

finally re Sharp - I hear your views - we are all entitled to them but there are no guarantees that whoever we sign will get 20 goals so there is always gonna be a risk

Not many people seem to have picked up on RK's comment quoted in the TWTD Priskin story: "I do have the option of one or two loan players." Seems very significant to me. I'm sure there is plenty going on behind the scenes. I'm glad we're taking our time. We just need to be patient.
