No Reading Move for Wright
No Reading Move for Wright
Wednesday, 2nd Sep 2009 12:09

Reading’s signing of Chelsea full-back Shaun Cummings would appear to rule out Town’s David Wright joining the Royals on loan, as was reported by the Berkshire press yesterday. We understand that contrary to the claims, Wright was never part of any swap deal involving Liam Rosenior.

Wright had been rumoured to be a Royals target since he was left out of the 18 which drew with Preston on Saturday having been in the side which lost in the Carling Cup at Peterborough on Tuesday.

Cummings, who had previously been on loan at West Brom and recently played against the Blues, has been signed as a replacement for Liam Rosenior, whose season-long loan move is still to be confirmed by the Football League.

It is hoped that the move went through prior to yesterday’s 5pm deadline, but if not it’s likely that the former Fulham man will join the Blues when the emergency loan window opens next Tuesday, when he can sign for a maximum of 93 days, and then again in January.

Meanwhile, it's reported that Grant Leadbitter has been handed the Town number six shirt.

wright is one of our strongest defenders so weve got to keep hold of him.

i quite rate rosenior and i wouldn't be surprised if he joins us - the reading fans aren't too keen it seems, he has a reputation as someone who picks up loads of bookings, is really chippy and hasn't fulfilled his potential - sounds like keane could be the man to try and get the best out of him
reckon we still need a centre back - some big lump with a broken nose and wins 90% of balls in the air please....no idea who but everyone else in the championship seems to have someone like that !!

Not too bothered - good squad player - but as stated in another post, not a player that will demand a place in the team and we should be looking at a better option like Rosenior - Fingers crossed it went through!!

No.6 - Smooth

Wright is a better left back than all the others that have played there this season , so glad he is staying.
If we can get Wood in from Sheff W and a forward on loan RK will have done good business.
Bit disappointing that no one left us to bring in some money though - can't see Garvan making the team , so he might as well go rather than waste away in the reserves

I'm not sure why Wright isn't playing at left back. Delaney clearly needs time to settle in, Smith needs time to mature (he will make a brilliant centre half soon) and we don't have anyone else really.

great news...i rate wright very highly, think is very versatile and one the better defenders we have, and he always tries to get up and help the attack!! very glad hes staying, and with him at LB and rosenior at RB, we've got 2 very good fullbacks on our hands

I am obviously in the minority as present but I would not have been bothered if Wright had left. To me he has never been the same since his injuries and has been well below his normal pace this season. Where have his raiding runs down the right gone and as for playing him left back square pegs in round holes comes to mind. Great Clubman and a nice bloke but like Keane I don't rate him anymore.

I know some reading season ticket holders and they say roseinor is rubbish and he looses reading games. They are pleased to see the back of him hope keane gives him a kick up the backside......Any hope of GIO yet...

Think signing Rosenior could be the best bit of business Keane has done in this transfer window, am very happy with him and Leadbitter. As for David Wright, I think his Ipswich career could well be over now, hasnt really been involved in first time affairs this season and with Tommy Smith being played ahead of him at left back and Bruce ahead of him at right back with Rosenior now in his chances are limited to say the least.

Can see Wright going out on loan somewhere, maybe we can loan Sheff Wed Wright in exchange for Wood???

Good news, although David is one of the players I have been disappointed with this season. I just wonder of he needs a move away from the club. We all know he had a tough time personally a while back and hasn't really been the same since. BUT better than Smith, Thatcher and Delaney at left back.

Roy will make the right decision regarding Wright.
