Clegg Still Backing Keane
Clegg Still Backing Keane
Wednesday, 21st Oct 2009 15:19

Chief executive Simon Clegg has again backed manager Roy Keane to turn around the Blues’ fortunes. Clegg says the situation hasn’t altered despite Town failing to win in their first 13 league games.

The chief executive said: “Roy's position is exactly the same now as it was at the start of the season. His team is improving with every game and it was a massively positive performance last night.

“But consistent with the season we are having so far, we conceded yet another late goal.”

Clegg was also impressed with the fans: “They were fantastic again. They were chanting his name and are right behind Roy. They are confident he will get it right, and so am I.”

Meanwhile, Town are waiting on news of the injury Jon Walters suffered towards the end of last night’s game. The striker was replaced by Alan Quinn for the final few minutes after limping off.

Two votes of confidence is as many weeks. I suspect that Clegg isn't quite aware of the historical context of doing that or Keane is really on his last warning... or a bit of both?

Im gettin tired of thissss tbh, no win in 13, what makes yhuu think we'll get a win against plymouth? We have no luck what so everrr. ITs not the managers fault or the playerss, just they need to learn how to play to the whistleee. And Dobbie do 1 mateee Cleggo doesnt work (:

I'm very much behind Keane and delighted with the positive performance yesterday however end of the day we've got 7 points from 13 games! Which as Keane says is unacceptable, wins are what is needed. No point being pleased as punch about a draw against a poor Watford side.

The doubters and whingers on here need to realise that Keano is going nowhere and get behind him or do the other. ME has not staked his money and reputation on the line in appointing a high profile man like RK to sack him just because we have had a poor start. People are debating one or two games etc....if we do not win until Xmas I believe the manager will still be in post and will get my backing. I will support and encourage my team whoever is at the helm and will continue to pay good money to follow them whatever the position in the league. All this negativity and booing is counterproductive. Anyway knowing RK and his mentality, he will strive harder to prove the doubters wrong.
In Keano I trust and Ipswich til I die....and some

I for one am happy we don't have a board that makes impulse decisions after a quarter of the season. Whilst Keano is yet to convince us all (which I believe he will) I honestly don't think it would do ITFC any good sacking him right now. He's started his 2 year plan, lets give him more time rather than after 13 league games.

Who else would we get/attract? We are struggling in the loan market for players so the talk of the Curbishleys/Shearers are nonsense!

Keano's building his team, lets support him and cheer on the boys which I have no doubt will encourage more performances like last night (except with better results). Shows good signs from ME/SC when you look at the Middlesboro's etc...

In the main today, it has been very encouraging to see the backing the team and Roy has had on this site. You will always get a minority of morons who call for managers heads after a poor run. It is no coinicidence that the team performed well last night and the crowd were positive in their vocal encouragement, the two go hand in hand.
The more positive and patient people can be in their support for the club and management, the better the outcome has to be. It is far too early to be talking about relegation battles (1 win from safety), there are stii 99 points to play for.
Byronitfc is spot on ...........Keep the positive vibe going, if you have to say negative things do it to the mirror cos you make no sense, have no positive imapact, get on most peoples tits and really are the minority!

Would be far more worrying if the Clegg wasn't coming out and supporting Keano through this sticky patch. coyb

Its funny that Middlesborough sacked Southgate yesterday based on the falling attendances at the Riverside. Its this blind optimism of our fans in believing that Keano has the nous to sort this situation out that is probably keeping him in the job. If we all didn't turn up for the next home game, Clegg would probably sack him in the same way Gibson has. Personally i think Keano has shown a lack of nous on anything as yet. He's looked way out of his depth and made some shocking decisons. Yeah, he's improving woopdy doo. So he should do after a quarter of the season has passed.

I'm not saying that we sack him, i'd rather we invest time in a manager, but i don't feel the need to restrain from showing our lack of satisfaction at a currently incompetent seasons worth of performances. Its our right as fans. Anyone who doesn't do that is putting blind faith ahead of pragmatism. And that, will just lead to relegation. There is no need to accept mediocrity.

Excellent performance last night. See how we are doing at Christmas and how the form is then. Isn't that what the pro Jim boys said last year, the year before and the year before that?

Quite ironic that those who want a return to 'Ipswich ways' seem intent on not giving a manager time and want him sacked. Sir Bob may have not got us relegated but , with him, for a couple of seasons we were in a relegation dogfight. Support of Keane is not based on blind faith but on an improving evolving situation .

Dobbie73 - Its like you love Clegg and Keane for taking us to the very BOTTOM of the table without a win in 14 or so games, and have the cheeck to call me an idiot?

Clever stuff Simon, backing Roy Keane at the point when it appears that the fans are uniting behind both the manager and the team. By coming out and backing Roy it shows the whole club from ME down to the fans are acting as one to get us out of the mess we find ourselves in.

During the coming weeks the results will come, this is not blind faith but acknowlegement of the vastly improved football that was there for all to see last night, I'm sorry if it offends any of those who continually criticise Roy Keane however, the improvement & class shown by several players last night has been achieved by Roy Keane, we all want success, it will come soon, Roy Keane is very much the man to do it I am convinced, have faith.

Maybe if Roy Keane had come out and backed his players, instead of being a petulant child and telling a few of them that they'd never play for him again, then we might not be in this situation. I was not a fan of Roys early sharpness with players and his decisions. I think he's more open and motivating now by getting behind them, and i think that will bring results.

So i'm glad Clegg is doing the same for Roy.

I guess improving from every game means the four matches after the 0-4 Newcastle defeat, which was the rock bottom. Good performance and 3-3 result at Sheff Utd, I agree. Poor 2-1 defeat at Barnsley followed. Swansea match (1-1) was not good either, accept defence under less pressure. Last night was a much better performance, but not result (1-1). Well, the test will be at Plymouth Saturday, as if we lose that we cannot say we are getting better. Let's hope the lads can keep up the improvement and get the win finally! If not, we cannot afford to let the situation go on much longer as the future of Ipswich in the Championship will be in real doubt. Even in the Joe Royle days of no money we were not in that situation!

Keep the faith it will get better. Clegg & RK will turn it around but it will take time. 3 points Saturday. Come on you blues.

tractorboybig. Not at all, the fans are blameless throughout all this. The problems lie elsewhere, bad management decisions from Roy Keane upto the Newcastle game and a bit bad luck thereafter.

Just highlighting good management skills by Simon Clegg in uniting the whole club at a point when the team is at last perhaps coming together. He realises that the next month is critical to the season, best to have everyone pulling in the same direction. If after a month we are still bottom 5-10 points adrift, I suspect he may think differently about Roy Keane's future. But at least before that point is reached he is trying to rally the troops into one final push to safety under Keane management.
