Wickham Nets England Hat-Trick
Wickham Nets England Hat-Trick
Wednesday, 28th Oct 2009 12:56

Town striker Connor Wickham netted a first-half hat-trick as England’s U17s defeated hosts Azerbaijan 4-0 in their second UEFA European U17 Championship qualifying group game earlier today.

The 16-year-old opened the scoring on 18, added a penalty on the half hour and made it 3-0 in the 39th minute.

The frontman, who was winning his sixth U17 cap, was replaced on 66 by Arsenal’s Benik Afobe, who added England's fourth moments after coming on.

England won their opening game 6-2 against Kazakhstan on Monday, Wickham creating one but failing to score himself, and complete their fixtures with a match against Serbia on Saturday.

Well done Connor, you really do have a bright future in the game, lets hope you can achieve it unlike Bowditch, Clarke etc.

Well done connor .
Superflude .... Clarke is playing regularly for a side 4 points off the top of the table, Haynes playing for a side 3 points off the top of table. Bowditch may have found his level ,but perhaps Mr Keane and the club let these two youngsters and Rhodes go a little prematurely ?

lets remember nobody let Rhodes go, the club accepted a good offer for him, but he chose to leave he couldve turned the move down.

Surco - do you actually watch the town at all?

Haynes could be good but whens he's bad hes awful and he was to much of a risk.
Clarke may be playing reguly and so may bowdith - but im talking about Connor here who looks world class and could be our new darren bent - that is all

Why do some people find it impossible to praise one player without having to have a pop at others?

Superflude ... i watch every game and agree Haynes was erratic but both these players are still young and learning and will only improve as they are doing this season .
Agree Wickham is looking to be a much better standard player, but lets hope this continues or he will criticised for not living upto his potential .
And as for Rhodes of course the club let him go ,we do not need the money and he tried to contact the club to say he didnt want to leave .

Surco - i am backing Connor all the way the same as i was with Rhodes, iwas devastated that he went, i wont believe everything in the papers abot the trying to contact etc etc, it might be true it might not, but as much as i hate the fact he has gone i look forward - and Connor looks like a competitor to Rooney!

Well played Connor. Once he scores his first league goal for Ipswich he will be banging them in for fun. I'll go for a 78th minute winner in front of the North Stand on Saturday.

Perhaps peope will now start to realise why Roades was allowed to move on; he was blocking Wickhams way forward.
