Keane: Deals Unlikely Until January
Keane: Deals Unlikely Until January
Friday, 6th Nov 2009 10:55

Town manager Roy Keane says there are unlikely to be any additions to his squad before January and that includes Senegalese defender Ibrahima Faye. The Blues boss says that the paperwork relating to the move to sign the recent trialist is holding up that deal, although he hints at the outside possibility of a loan defender joining the club before the new year.

Keane said: “I don’t imagine any players will be coming into the club before January. I’d be very surprised.

“If there’s any movement before the deadline [on November 26th] it will be players going out on loan, but I can’t see any players coming in.”

Keane says that the move to sign the free agent trialist he revealed last week is still ongoing and that the player is interested in joining the Blues: “We’re keen on the boy, we think he’s a decent player but there are one or two details with passports and work permits. I wouldn’t bore you with the details.

“That might drag on for two or three weeks and in that time we might have some more defenders back, and as much as I’m saying I’d be surprised if another player comes in, we’re still waiting on feedback from one club about a defender and if that was to happen then we maybe might follow up with the deal.

“I want to be careful about getting the balance of the squad right and, as much as the boys who came in [on trial] last week were good players, we’ve also got one or two lads coming back from injury as well and I don’t want to overload the squad.”

Keane says that Icelandic U19 international strike pair Pape Mamadou Faye and Ragnar Leosson have returned home after their spells with the club: “They’ve gone back, but we’re keeping an eye on them. Sometimes they come over on trial and you don’t make a decision after a few days. Maybe they’ll come back again.”

well thats it then i suppose. bit dissapointing after all the messages coming out were "we're signing 1 or 2 players" throughout late sept/oct. but you have to sympathise that noone wants to come to us in the position were in. hopefully he'll be working to get more perminant solutions in place in jan.

"on paper" we're good enough to climb the league. Just got to do it on the pitch, & that means RK getting the tactics & team selection right, and the players performing to their maximum week in week out

Norris & Civelli coming back - if we can't get any more defenders, let's work with what we've got & just make sure we score more than they do! 6 pointer on Saturday all I can think about!

He should nto have said anything earlier in the year, saying about us being close to 1or2 signings! We would then not get our hopes up! I kinda get myself into situations like this at work when I say I will do x amount of deals and then sometimes fall short!

I dont think we need any midfielders but I would def still like to have 2 defenders in, the problem I can see is with our current defence and some of the blunders they are prone to by Jan there is a good chance we will still be bottom, then he will not be able to attract anyone!

I'd go with.....Begovic - Rosenior, Bruce, Delaney, Wright - Edwards, leadbitter, Trotter, Walters - Counago, Priskin.

Keanes such a dick for taking us to this position! I honestly cant believe there are not more people on here calling for his head! Do you honestly think that with the way we have played this year that even if we survive this season that next eyar we will be up the other end of the table? I dont and still think he should go!

will be good to see the two lads back from injury, its been a long time, just as well the Icelandic pair have gone back, think the spelling would cause problems and i cant come up with songs to rhyme with them anyway. Its disapointing we have to wait for new signing but as RK said with two coming back its probably best to see how thing shape up then, rather than overload squad, i do at least think RK makes more sense talking than JM , its worrying really i may be warming to RK , I may soon be able to come on here without my hard hat and riot shield ! COME ON TOWN !!!!!!!!!!

I think if delaney can cut it a central defender then we are OK. I always wondered why he wasnt tried there, 6'3 and slow as f**k, made for the role. Now we just need to get Priskin showing that he is a good player as I think he will soon! Midfied id fairly strong, Leadbetter, very good buy for me should be Captain.

I agree that he should not talk it all up and then reveal nothing is happening until January. However, in general, I think that this is good news. I want to see RK work with the squad he has now. This is a squad that he has assembled so let us see now what he can do with it. I want to see him nurture this group of players into a team that is capable of winning against sides much higher up in the league. I don't like to see managers panicking slightly and bringing in players to fill positions that are temporarily under perfoming. Lets see what RK can do as a manager now and how he handles the squad that he has bought.

I think it can be a success, I really do but I think that there are still some very worrying signs on the pitch. I hope we beat Reading tomorrow but I have to say I can see another drawer coming.

Callumgs:- entitled to your opinion mate, but childish name calling really isn't the way forward, is it?

Anyway. no more new players means no more disruption. As others have said, lets go with what we have!

3 points tomorrow. COYB!!!

to be honest with you callumgarryskeemer you should be loyal to your club mate some one has to be bottom and unfortunatly at the moment its us but we have a quality manager and a good set of players that are looking better game by game give it time and we will start climbing the table we may not get promotion this year but i believe keane will have built a strong squad by next season then we will fight for the the top spot. you cannot expect miricles over night mate !
in keane we trust !

Poor bloke can't win can he? If he plays his cards too close to his chest he's criticised for not keeping the fans in the picture but when he does let slip that he's close to a couple of loan deals & they don't come off he's equally pilloried by those who seem to assume that we have a god given right to sign every player we are in the market for.

The fact of the matter is he's made a class signing in Begovic and the confidence that has started to spread through the defence as a result is palpable whether it be McAuley & Smith or Bruce & Delaney who make up the central partnership. 3 goals conceded in the 4 matches since Begovic arrived is proof positive that things are going in the right direction there without the need to sign a loan defender.

In midfield Leadbitter & Edwards pick themselves & while we're still badly missing Norris & Civelli we have reasonable cover in depth to fill the gaps until they return. I agree with candyshop's team selection for tomorrow with the exception of putting Quinn in the middle instead of Trotter. Despite his critics he always gives 100% and performs much better in a central role than out on the left.

We just need to get those strikers firing now & from what we saw in the last 30 minutes last Saturday I'm hopeful that the Pablo / Priskin partnership will start bearing fruit if they are given a run of games together. Young Connor will have gained a lot from his recent international experience and I'm sure he will find his shooting boots at club level before long as well. Bringing in a loan striker with a proven track record at this stage will be nigh on impossible and even if we do there is never any guarantee that he will slot straight into a rich vein of scoring goals.

One win and all you lot are convinced, me not so easily! When we are in this position in a few weeks you will be saying the same as me!

lukeym18 added 13:16 - Nov 6
tomorrow i'd play priskin & coungago upfront when they came on last week they made the difference in center mid i'd have quinn and leadbitter, walters & edwards wingers, and same defence as last week they didnt put a foot wrong. reading aint won at home since jan so early pressure and a goal will only help us more.

CGS - I have no doubt whatsoever that we will be in the same position in a couple of weeks, even at Christmas. We're League one now. That's it.

Were in a lot more trouble than any of you realise. You all seem to think now we won against a crap weak derby team that we will go on this run! Reading will bring you back to reality! Soon you will realis that were in a relegation battle!

As Uefa81 as much as i want to disagree with you, your RIGHT! people on here are so fickle! one game out of 15 means that we LOSE the majority of our games! People saying myu comments are boring and that we dont support the team! AMtch day counts for cheering, Forum posting is about views and opinion

Why do you all think that we will miraculously turn it around all of a sudden? We have the same manager and defence that got us here in the first place so wise up and realise that supporting a crap manager like Keane makes you no more of a fan than me or Uefa. In fact me and uefa seem to be the only ones with a bit of sense! dirtydingus and naa that extends to you too!

We don't need any more signings, gelling a winning side is all that is needed.. The players we have at the moment are good enough if gelled to reach the top 6, no question.
