Quinn: Wickham's Got Everything
Quinn: Wickham's Got Everything
Friday, 20th Nov 2009 07:33

Midfielder Alan Quinn says he can understand why top Premier League sides are eyeing 16-year-old Town striker Connor Wickham. Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are all said to be amongst the top flight clubs keen to snatch Wickham away from Town prior to him signing a professional contract when he is 17 in March.

Quinn says he has never known a player who has been more complete at the same age: “He's got everything. He's got a good right foot, good left foot, he can head the ball, he's a massive lad, strong, has pace and can also finish!

“He's also got the right attitude, so I hope that Ipswich can hold on to him. I've never known any other 16-year-old to be such a good footballer. He's amazing.

“We played an 11 versus 11 match in training this week, and he was unbelievable in that game. He's not even bothered by centre-halves like Gareth and Tommy.”

Meanwhile, Reading boss Brendan Rodgers has denied a report earlier in the week which claimed he was interested in signing former Town striker Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield.

Absolute quality player with the world at his feet! Has the potential to make a big name for himself!

Perhaps we need to 'hide' his talent rather than publicise it and alert our Premiership colleagues. I hope he's well advised and will sign up in January...even if he can give us only a couple of years service.

Connor, stay with the Town mate. If you go to a 'huge' club, you'll be trapped in the reserves, and it'll be ages before you get a first team game (despite what they might promise you to get you to sign)
I wonder how many of players like you get swallowed up by the Chelseas or Arsenals, clubs who overload themselves with expensive foreign signings and the poor youngsters never get a look in.
Stay at the Town - you know it makes sense.

I don't think not being bothered by Gareth and Tommy says a lot!

Hype313.
Good spot.Dont know about you lot, but i would welcome him back in a heartbeat.
Ok he is injury prone, but i seem to remember him scoring with a broken leg!
Even injured he is a class above most.
Probably just another journo putting 2+2 and equaling 5, tho.
Having said that, i would rather trust the telegraph than say, NOTW/SUN/MIRROR.

As for Connor, i think we all know he is class, i dont think we need other players telling the world before we can get him tied into a contract!
And before you all start, if he does go..IT IS NOT THE CLUBS/MANAGERS FAULT...it is league rules.

yeah, tbh i'd take him back in a snap. Ok he is injury prone, but he is a massive town fan and he would enjoy it back here, I do think having a few local lads will help our cause (I know i'm old skool..)

Would welcome him back if
a) He's fit.
b) He's committed.
c) His wage demands are not disruptive to the squad.

Old skool/sensible....You choose

Yeah nobrain tend to agree about wage demands, you just hope the rest of the squad see him for what he is, a chance to get promoted, and ALL be on that type of wage.
As for commited, he is a Town fan, how committed would you be if you had the chance to play for us?
Now fit, for me thats the biggy....still all pie in the sky though till he signs BIG IF!

Sorry also meant to say, according to reports, Connor and his family are Town supporters, that may help us to hold on to him for a while yet.
Dont want to hold the lad back, but he has years and years to make his mark at a high level/club, a few seasons with us would be beneficial to all.

Whi is Wickham nowhere near the starting 11 then? In particular, in a team that is not scoring many?

Maysixth, be nice to see him in the side a bit more.
Remember he has been away withEngland a bit.
Also the general consensus in football is youngsters need to be bedded in slowly, not sure if i agree with that myself, i feel if you are good enough you are old enough...but what do i know.
If any of you have the chance PLEASE try and watch Sky sports.
RK is being interviewed about "that goal" against Ireland, classic Roy...He blames Eire...they should have cleared the ball (the defence), and Delaney (Irish FA) has no room to talk about cheating...boy does he go into one...absolute classic!!

Callum....sit down...i agree with you....
Well a bit, anyway.

Shouldnt come out with stuff like that, as i said before, it dont help.
But if an offhand comment, this may have been such, is then reported, who do you blame?
Lets hope Wenger/Ferguson etc dont read TWTD!!!!!

callumgarryskeemer - please moderate the language mate - there are kids who read this site.

Agree that players should try to engage their brains before opening their mouths to the press though.

Yes Callum - please tone it down. You can make your points much better without the bad language.

I think that the England hat-trick will have had more agents grubby paws sweating than anything that one of our players may have said.

Alan Quinn says he hopes town can hang on to Connor - if Quinny is genuine, wouldn't it be better so say that Connor is pants. Surely, saying that he's the best thing since sliced bread is the best way to get him to leave.

WickedBlue added 13:18 - Nov 20
On behalf of Quinn he is not saying anything that people don't already know. These big premier clubs are no mugs that is why they are big. They even got the premier league which was for their benefit not footballs and the got the rules changed that allows them to come in and steal a youth player from a club like us for next to nothing. Hopefully Conner will see sense that his immediate future is with us, if the reports are right and he and his family are town supporters that might weigh in our favour.
