Bruce a Doubt for Cardiff Trip
Bruce a Doubt for Cardiff Trip
Tuesday, 24th Nov 2009 09:19

Central defender Alex Bruce is a doubt for Sunday's trip to Cardiff City with a recurrence of the groin injury he suffered earlier in the season. The Irish international was replaced by Gareth McAuley during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "We will have more of an idea later this week but it's a groin injury and it looks a similar one to last time."

Bruce told TWTD in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of the fanzine, which you can buy here, that he actually picked up the problem in the match at Doncaster: “I felt my groin towards the end of the Doncaster game and again a little bit in training through the week.

“I thought it wasn’t right but with the Newcastle game coming up [the following Saturday] I thought that once I was out there on the pitch with the crowd behind me I’d get away with it.

“But when it’s a muscle injury it just gets worse and that was the case. I started the game and the first sprint I made I felt it and it got worse and worse and eventually it was so sore I had to come off.

“It’s a lesson I’ve learnt; you can’t get away with playing with muscle injuries. You might get away with a kick or a bang but a muscle strain you’ve just got to give them rest and let them heal themselves.”

I agree Mac & Delaney will be fine, but it does show the lack of quality at the back. I'm hoping Wrighty will be up for raising his game, just as Owen did. He's got the chance to shine again before Murphy comes in after Xmas. Time to show why he's going to be No1.

I dont think we have any defenders good enough to stop Cardiff! Chopra and Bothroyd will have a good afternoon, especially with Wright in goal.

all you pesimists- get the farrk out!!!

The defense are playing reasonably well delaney has been good lately(taken a while i know) and mccauley isnt as bad as alot of people make out although has made costly errors.

Wrighty- everyone was buzzing when we signed him back saying how good it was for him to be back and that we were moving in the right direction, he made a couple of mistakes and now everyone thinks he is a liability!!!!!

ok the bosnian superstar came in and done well but wrighty is our own blood and we should get behind him and want him to be buzzing for saturdays game and not thinking- oh i cant make a mistake everyone already thinks im pants.... cos it will get him in bad mindset from the first whistle

Are you town supporters or not?!?!?! through good and bad times at the club if your a supporter you should be singing from the same hymn sheet!!!

COYB!!!

No problem with that... McAuley has been very good recently before his injury and when he came on, he is so good in the air aswell as Delaney and tackling wise they are both capable.
We just need the goals to start coming.. not likely with out strikers atm, want to see Connor and Pablo start the next home game, we might as well if nothing else is working. Pablo and Priskin for Cardiff, only if we can get Priskin bothered!
