Loanees This Christmas
Loanees This Christmas

Fringe members of Roy Keane’s squad are being lined up for loans ahead of the transfer window opening in January. Chief executive Simon Clegg says he hopes to secure their moves before Christmas so he, Keane and club owner Marcus Evans can concentrate on negotiating permanent deals once the window is open.

Clegg says the trio have already talked about their January plans: “We’ve had discussions about what may or may not happen, but it’s still early days.

"What I would like to do is put the loan deals to bed over the next week before Christmas so that anyone who is going out on loan can prepare themselves for however long they’re going to be away.

“Then we can leave the January window to concentrate on transfers as opposed to loans.”

Clegg says the likes of Pim Balkestein, currently with Brentford, and Jack Ainsley, at Rushden, could have their spells extended, while other players are also likely to make short-term moves: “Those that are out on loan at the moment and those that might be going out on loan.

“There are a number of people who are interested in some of our players. Whether Roy is prepared to let them go out and whether I can reach a financial deal which is worth our while are the two big ifs.”

Earlier in the week, Colin Healy was linked with a possible move to Hartlepool, who tried to sign him from Cork City in the summer, while youngsters such as Ed Upson, Reggie Lambe and Ronan Murray could all also be targeted by lower league clubs.

Jaime Peters put pen to paper on a new three-year deal on Tuesday and Clegg says talks with other members of the first team squad will be taking place soon: “It would be irresponsible not to. They need to know where they stand vis-à-vis new contracts with this club or, where appropriate, we should make it clear that they should be moving on.”

American trialist Devann Yao was recently offered a contract by the Blues and Clegg says the club are continuing to discuss the compensation due to some of the clubs the 19-year-old midfielder was with as youth player. New Yorker Yao spent three years with French side Metz, six months each with Italian clubs Livorno and Pisa as well as a short spell with St Mirren in Scotland.

Clegg says if agreements can be reached, Yao will join: “There are a few complications which we are working through, it’s not as straightforward as it appeared initially. If we can get to a satisfactory outcome we’ll be in a position to sign him.”

However, Clegg says it‘s looking less likely that Senegalese trialist Ibrahima Faye will be joining Town with his lack of recent international caps making securing a work permit difficult: “That one is still live but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.”

The Town chief executive says the club are yet to look at whether to extend Jack Colback and Stern John’s loan spells with the club.

rossenior is signed permently ......sort of lol
there is allready an agreement in place as he is out of contract in the summer so they say otherwise good plan
i would keep pim out on loan with an option to call back though hes good cover for now if we need him unless sol campbell wants to sit on the bench for us lol and i wouldnt offload upson permently hes showing some gd promise on the wing hes worth a season on loan in league 1 then have another look at him. counago can follow lisbie out leaving us Stead, priskin, walters, wickham, stern john (for rest of the season) to pick from and if someone good enough is about the new superstar 60 goal a season should be playing in the premier league striker who we can afford because counago and lisbie are off the wage bill but i wouldnt mind waiting untill summer for him as he would be more likey to be avaialble who ever he might be and he would be cheaper.
i would give barret a year but only a year contract as murphy is untesetd i dnt think wright will play for us again when/if hes fit again. murphy could end up on the bench and someone else coming in to be senior keeper ..begovic..alexander maybe as he is looking for games..but mcgregor would fetch more money for cash strapped rangers so alexander might end up no.1 there plus keane might not even contemplate a rangers player :P if he would he should find some wages for kris boyd for the striker spot he would probably get 70 goals a year!!!

Thought rosenior refused to sign a permanent deal so that he could keep his options open in the summer.

hype313- Why would you want to send stern john back??? He's done more in his games here than most of the other strikers. ( except stead) He's strong, holds the ball up well and has good strength. What more could you ask for, hes just like hesky, doesnt score that often but does alot for the team. Unlike pablo who's useless and falls over every 5 seconds looking for a freekick... Plus he cnt hit a barn dooor (:

My Plan of action

Loan out Priskin,to get some games/confidence and bring him back sharp,
Try lisbie for a couple of games to see what could be done, if no good, get rid perm, Maybe just maybe send Wickham on loan? don't know if we can because of age but maybe giving him a bit of league 1-2 experience will help before bringing him in properly.
I think Keane may possibly spend big and try to get Chopra in, possibly even healy again.

Ftw - i agrre with you 100% regarding pablo, I dont understand what he brings to the team, and stern can hold up the ball far better, all i was saying that january is a good time to assess what we have, what we don't have and who is out there that could strengthen us. From what i've heard stern is prob going back to palace regardless so my main question was who else??, and yes scotland hasnt scored yet in the pl but there are alot of decent strikers who haven't ie berbatov. and we certainly are not going to look at him for a loan..just a few points to ponder

Gio's in the spurts squad at the minute I believe he played a few mins the a game or two ago - he's not on the loan out list anymore.

May sound daft, but has a deal been made for Pavlychenko yet?

Sounds way beyond daft...

Why would Cardiff sell Chopra, and why would he come? Hoped that Healy nonsense had been laid to rest along with the GIO trash but right on cue here they both are getting a mention..

I don't feel like we need any new additions, barring a bargain goalmachine.
Would like to see John stay longer and hope Colback will too.
Lot's of fringe players that should head off for a few months, and hopefully they will go to clubs that will give them some regular games (are you listening Rushden?)

How is Chopra daft? he likes playing for Keane - he's said himself and Keane said he would have bought him but he'd just signed for Cardiff, so maybe in jan he'll try a cheeky bid.

PS. xrayspecs - Is it part of your Jan-masterplan to get Arran Lee-Barrett to change his name permanently to Arran Barret-Smith? It seems like a popular policy amongst many of the less abled spellers on the site, while your there get Jaime Peters to shift that i over the other side of the m..

Chopra's established in a Cardiff side that is in top form, 3rd in the table and seriously ogling up 2nd. Not that it wouldn't be great if he did.

Have you not seen cardiffs recent form - not great is it.
I would go for it, £3 mill will get the goals we need.

Yeh XRAY u on the money again. Although, The John thing is tough, maybe a month extension contingent on who we bring in as a striker - if we bring no-one, definitely extend.

Priskin Wickham Stead [----------] (still worried about Priskin, normally u can discern a potential in someone playing badly, but he has given me literally nothing..)

Sorry Pabs old boy, maybe cup games..

Superflude have you see Cardiffs form recently ? Last 3 games 3 wins against Preston,West Brom and Middlesboro thats as many as we have managed all season ! 3 points off automatic promotion Chopra would really have to like Roy to leave them ,would be nice though..

superblueflude added 14:59 - Dec 17
My BAD - didn't realise they'd gotten back on track - i thought they were having a bad spell which included our win lol. apologies.

Surco what about Kitson? or what about Keane going in for beckford - could he make that step up do you think?
