Who Was Town's Player of the Decade?
Who Was Town's Player of the Decade?
Monday, 21st Dec 2009 11:48

As the noughties come to a close, we thought it was time for TWTD users to name their Town Player of the Decade.

Which player contributed most to the club in the years 2000-2009? Add your nomination in the Comments section below saying why you feel they are worthy of the award and we'll subsequently run a poll on the site involving the most popular candidates.

Much has been said before but if you were to nominate just one player from anytime 2000-9 for me it would be Marcus Stewart. Marcus demonstrated skills a class above any other striker we had during this decade. He left supporters with many happy memories when recalling his skill, deadly finish and footballing intelligence and has never been replaced (There's only one Marcus Stewart!).

For longevity it would be a choice between Fabian, Jim and Richard Naylor. All contributed enormously in diferent ways as players and each should be acknowledged for the part they played during the noughties.

Special award for players making a bigger contribution than their abilities would suggest (imho) Matt Richards and Ian Westlake both products of the youth system.

Runner up superhero award to the one and only Shefki closely followed by slow foot himself Darren Currie.

Finally mention for Mr Ipswich, Matt Holland and the super sub Reuser(rrrrrr!). No recent Ipswich team could be complete without there names being mentioned.

All we need now is a survey of the worst ITFC player of the decade for which I would nominate Ulrich le Pen. Even Finidi George managed to stay on the pitch for a full match.

3 Players with IMPACT;-

Marcus Stewart
Possibly one of the most genuinely ambitious signings we have ever made, and whilst it was short it was oh so sweet, some of those goals are almost ballet!

Fabian Wilnis
Long service throughout this period. Oh & a peach against manure

Finally a name that has not been mentioned in the 2 / 3 pages I looked at but in terms of impact has to be a noughties hero even if the opposition had to wear yellow & green to get the best out of him... Danny Haynes

I'm sure there are other deserving of mentions but in terms of pure impact I'll stick with these 3.

Bestblue, Dyer left in 1999 after the playoff defeat against Bolton, so he can hardly be mentioned as player of the noughties now can he? Do your homework.
