Clough Confirms Keane Talks
Clough Confirms Keane Talks

Derby County manager Nigel Clough has confirmed that Blues boss Roy Keane has been in contact and that defender Jay McEveley’s name was one of those mentioned. Keane, who played alongside Clough at Nottingham Forest, says he has made one or two enquiries with the transfer window opening last Monday.

McEveley, who previously spent time on loan with the Blues in 2005/06 and is out of contract next summer, was linked with a return to Portman Road on Friday. Previously, his Rams team-mate Rob Hulse was also reported to be a Town target.

Clough says Keane has been in touch on a number of occasions: "I have spoken to Roy a couple of times about a few players, some of ours and some of his. Jay was one of the names mentioned but we've heard nothing since then.

"Jay has got six months left on his contract, so he is free to talk to anyone about a move if he wants to.

"We held preliminary talks about a new contract with his agent but they have been put on hold for the time being."

Derby confirmed their interest in Town striker Jon Stead in October, although given his recent goalscoring run it's unlikely that the Blues would sell the 26-year-old, who spent time on loan at Pride Park in 2006/07.

Town manager Keane has confirmed that he has been in touch with clubs about a couple of potential targets: “I have made one or two enquiries as you would expect at this time of year.”

Mungo - not a bad idea! Wait until the receivers go into Portsmouth and pick up any of their players for a song. They are in the s**t and no mistake.

Personally, whilst I am generally agaisnt ex-players coming back, because they do not match expectations, the "Herminator" is one I would make an exception for.

Currently watching Soccer Saturday and the comments regarding Rovb Hulse aren't filling me with confidence: "Should have scored but headed over... not had the best of games... etc." Not that I'm saying anything Ian Dowie says is worth listening to but...

By the way, the Leicester game is on tv tomorrow now! Hooray!

Mceverley would be a decent addition to the squad i feel, not amazing but ok.

whoever mentioned the name of former puffin catcher herman hreidasson is a genius, would love to see him back, he could easily play left or centre back and be a fine asset to any championship team. not beyond the realms of possibility either but he'd probably have plenty of premiership suitors.

Kris commons would be a great signing but i cant see it happening, at least not for a decent price.

hulse is the other one, we all want a striker thats gonna set the world alight but it aint going to happen, unless we sign an unknown gem. hulse, for the right price (and right price only) could be a really solid addition, not out right premiership standard but more then capabale of scoring goals playing in a team on the up, which i think we are now.

i see good things ahead for town but, slowly, slowly, catchy monkey. all this talk of dos santos and the like, we just need a team good enough to get to the prem, we can worry about staying there when we actually achieve it!

I agree with Mungo that Patrick Agyemang would be a good addition.
Get rid of Stern John, and get him in. Saw him as a sub in the QPR game, and yes, he wasn't on for long, but is big, strong, and can take control up front to pass it on to one of the strikers (stead or Priskin (when he finds his form!)) to net. He would be great as a Heskey.

LeadbitterIsBeast...
Probably does, but the problem is do they want to drop down a level?
In most cases not.
The majority seem quite happy to warm prem benches and claim their pay for doing eff all.
The only way we would get them is on loan, and the only ones that are free to be loaned out arent regular prem players.
If we were to be promoted, perhaps then we could attract "worthy prem players",until then we will have to make do with lesser players and hope that they get us that promotion.
