Norris Claiming Goal
Norris Claiming Goal

Midfielder David Norris is claiming Town’s early goal at Leicester, despite Foxes defender Ryan McGivern getting the final touch. The former Plymouth man says he made contact on the ball prior to the on-loan Manchester City man.

Norris said: "I got a nick on it. The ball hit his leg last, but I thought it was going in anyway. I'd definitely like to claim the goal as mine, of course I would.

"We've had a habit of scoring early goals in some recent matches, but we really need to get that second goal.

"I think we just need a bit more self-belief now. Looking back, I'm sure we'll consider this to be a good point.

"It's a big hurdle for me to play the full 90 minutes. I've had a couple of 55-minute appearances, and I'm feeling good. The knee is OK.”

Norris seems likely to be credited with the goal with no dubious goals panel in operation in the Football League and clubs left to make the decision themselves.

Certainly all the Leicester staff on the gate told me it was a Norris goal I'd just missed.

Give him the goal. If McGivern hadn't got that touch after Norris it would have probably gone in the other corner.

If its down to the club to decide then he will obviously push for the goal - can't see the bookies being happy mind! Am sure they'd have decided it was an OG.

To me it was an OG - v big deflection off McGivern after a slight Norris touch.

Fact is, that Norris put it on target so Norris should rightfully claim the goal. If it came off the crossbar or post and hit mcGivern and went in which it didn't then maybe, but I am creditting Norris with the Goal.

If the panel are anything like the disciplinary bunch of wasters, they'll give the goal to Stead.

Definite Norris goal. He got a touch towards goal (not going wide or over), it has taken a deflection into different part of the goal.

Well done Norris; Centre midfielder inside opponents six yard box in first 20 seconds of game. Great gamble and what a great engine the little fella has, him and Leadbetter will be very very good together from now until May!!!

If there's a shot that was on target and goes in off a deflection it's still awarded to the player, not an own goal. It's the same situation imo, should be given to Norris.

Norris claiming the goal may help our appalling record of 6 goals from 88 starts for our midfielders ,may go towards explaining our league position and lack of goals rather than just saying we havent got a 20 goal a season striker ?
The leading scorers in our league are full of midfielders a lot in double figures Whittingham,Nolan,Ambrose,Johnson,Adam,Cleverly . £8million spent improving the midfield and attack and we score less ,lets not just blame the forwards

Hope the goal is given to Norris - he definitely got a touch that was going on target. Also, it is just what the team needs - a midfielder who will attack the box, support the front players and give defenders something more to think about than just the front two. I really like Leadbitter and while he may score some from distance, he is not an attacking midfielder. Norris should be given licence to push on as goalscoring is not just down to strikers although their return is certainly not good enough this season. Also wish McAuley would really attack corners more often - when he does, he is very dangerous!
