Forest: Adebola is Not For Sale
Forest: Adebola is Not For Sale
Thursday, 14th Jan 2010 15:23

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies says he knows nothing of Town interest in striker Dele Adebola and has no plans to sell the 34-year-old Nigerian. Chief scout Steve McCall and coach Ian McParland watched Adebola in action against Birmingham earlier in the week, although there is no suggestion that the Blues have as yet made an approach for the ex-Crewe frontman.

Davies says he is unaware of the Blues' interest in his player: "It was a surprise to me. Adebola is going nowhere. I am very surprised because Adebola is a major part of this squad and a major part of what we are doing and a major part for the rest of the season."

The ex-Derby boss says he joked with the striker about the potential move: "We wished him all the best on the training ground this morning, myself the staff and the players, and wished him well at Ipswich."

Meanwhile, Town chief executive Simon Clegg has dismissed a claim by credit agency Equifax in a weekend newspaper that the Blues and half the Championship are insolvent: “Ipswich Town FC is most definitely not an insolvent football club.

“While there is a historical legacy of debt, nothing is now owed by Ipswich Town to a bank or other financial institution.”

Clegg recently told TWTD that the club's debt is likely to continue to grow.

Just the kind of responses I expected and they'll probably continue on after my post for a page or two. I'll just say that most of you can't see beyond your nose, Stern John has been a valuable signing for us and has aided our recent upturn in form, once his loan ends Adebola would be the perfect replacement. 12 month contract and then on to a long-term solution in the summer.

Apparently Adebola is "major". Not sure if anyone else picked that up...

I doubt very much Town were even looking at him tbh. Certainly "one for the future" is he ?

Can I ask why people don't want him? What are they basing this instant dislike for him. Have any of you actually seen him play or because it isn't wayne rooney you don't want him? I'm not saying he would be my first choice, I would give Pabs a decent run, I'm just interested why people are so against it. besides I have it on good authority that the scouts were watching Dexter Blackstock.

"Chief scout Steve McCall and coach Ian McParland watched Adebola in action against Birmingham earlier in the week"
What, they just watched Adebola, and not any other the other 21 (at least) players on the pitch.

No, please no! Too old, 2-3 years ago maybe he'd have been a useful squad player. But this is probably just nonsense, as has been pointed out, were they only watching Adebola and not ANY other player?

I doubt there is anything in this and who really cares about a company looking into finances and no doubt second guessing the financial issues at Championship clubs?

He played against us several times when he was a younger man at Crewe. He's okay. A second striker at best - and e have a whole strike force of second strikers... Not the answer I'm afraid, but it shows the quality of teams like Notts F if this guy is a squad player. If we are going to sign one player (although if Peter Halmosi is going cheap from Hull - snap the guy up!) then lets make it a decent one - and lets splash some cash. There must be a striker out there - McSheffrey perhaps - who is surplus and wants a challenge.

Time to act - time is running out, players are being bought, sold and loaned out; we don't want to end up with the dregs - or nobody.

Until then - Stead and Pabs please.

Whether this is paper talk or not, Adebola has always done very well against us and is a constant menace. For obvious reasons, he's not a long term solution but he would certainly do a job. That said, if the link IS true, I'd much rather think we were thinking longer term and looking for someone younger. Hopefully, given further chances, Priskin will start to show his worth.

Slowerball, Mcsheffrey shout. That's a good one, would not be complaing if we signed him.

Sadly, there is a long list of strikers who have scored / done well / shone against us! We can't buy them all... Yes, he is a decent striker, not a bad shout, but he's 34 and Bristol City let he go for free? Not good enough for the Robins but okay for Town... However, I don't think he's coming - and I think it is paper talk / agents spin.

We are on the lookout for a number 1 choice, nailed on 1st XI striker, with whom Stead, Pablo (not according to RK - unless he's doing a Garvan with him?), Wickham, John, Priskin or whoever can play alongside. I don't think Adebola will add anything to our current line-up / strength.
