Civelli Returns Home
Civelli Returns Home
Friday, 15th Jan 2010 10:43

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that Luciano Civelli is unlikely to play for Town this season and has returned home to Argentina to recover from the knee ligament injury.

Civelli was injured back in March in a game against Burnley and it was hoped that he would return this month, as Town boss Roy Keane explained to the club site: "Luca has gone back to Argentina for two months and I have written him off until pre-season.

"It has been tough for him. He's had a few setbacks and is making slow progress but he's had a serious injury.

"We had a chat last week and he asked if he could go home and I'm comfortable with that. For the foreign lads it can be better for them to be back home and our medical people will be in touch with him every week.

"He'll be using a clinic in Argentina and it will help him being home, not just physically but mentally as well."

Its a shame, but i'd rather him go home, get better and come back in pre-season ready to take the league by storm next season.

All the best Civs and don't rush back.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat? This guy cost us nearly £1million. Good things were expected. Now he won't have played for us for 18 months and may even leave.
Is he the new Le pen (2001 season)?
What with Martins and Priskin, I think some of Marcus Evans money has dissappeared with no end result. If these 3 were effective we'd be in the top 5 of the league. Curse our luck!!!!!!!!!

Thats a shock. It must have been worse than was reported.
But seriously, is the medical and rehab better in Argentina than in the UK?

If he is to be fit for pre-season, surely he needs to stay here and work hard.

Good decision, get him fit and healthy and hungry to prove himself in the premiership (obviously where we will be next season!), all the best Luciano.

PS: I would wish this injury on a Canary - SCUM SCUM SCUM!

Well done Keano - Right decision. He must be depressed enough not being able to play let alone in a foreign country. As RK says it's gonna help him more mentally now to be back home than stuck here. Hope to see you soon Luca.

Damn was looking forward to his return, a quality flair player who will change games. I wish him all the best, I've had this injury and it's a bugger to get over physically and mentally, being alone in a strange country won't have helped him, as for the money, who cares, this is someones livelyhood and wellbeing. I wish you well Luciano, I sincerely hope we do see you back playing again here at Ipswich. We need players like you!

That is a massive blow for him and the club. But it does mean that we will need to dip into the market.

I hate to say this as it is a long shot and I was a moaner about people going on about it, but have we even tried to get Gio back in the frame? Only a few months of the season left and he will need to play games to get in the mexican world cup squad. I know it is pie in the sky stuff but lets get in the mix and get an exciting player in.

Get well soon Luca and see you next season.

A lot of the recovery from this sort of injury in mental as well as physical. Stuck in a foreign country when this badly injured could not have been easy for him.

I have concerns that the medical care over there will not be as good as it is here, but perhaps it is the mental side of things that he needs to get striaght now. This is a very good move by the club.

I just hope that he does gets things sorted for his sake. My heart says get well soon and see you next August. My head says Goodbye, good luck and all the best for the future.

Nice gesture from Keano and probably the right thing for him.
Just hope the medical care he will receive in Argentina is as good as he would have got here .

How long was his contract? he would have not got more that 3 years surely? which means he will be in his last year when he does come back (if). Working in the rehab field, thats some injury to be out with for a whole 18 months (considered the level of rehab available to him) I am sceptical he will play again, or if he will be ever as good as he promised to be. Insurance, settlement of contract and move on? Mercinary I know!

McSheffrey on the left wing? As reported, we had scouts at the Birmingham game, no? Not sure if he played, but it could be the reason we were there...

Forgotten about him and don't think we will see him again, I could be wrong!

I just hope this injury doesn't turn into a career ender.

He was like a breath of fresh air in the team in the few games he played last season. Got my fingers crossed that he recovers fully and that Keano keeps him.
