Town Close Buttermarket Shop
Town Close Buttermarket Shop
Friday, 22nd Jan 2010 16:14

Town have announced the closure of the club shop in the Buttermarket. The Planet Blue store will shut its doors for the final time on February 7th.

Sales and marketing director Andrew Goulborn explained the decision: “We will be concentrating all our efforts on the Portman Road superstore.

“We are also experiencing a continued growth in customers shopping online and that, along with the need to streamline our retail operation in a tough market, are factors that have been considered in making this decision, with the club currently looking at enhancing the online service for match tickets.”

The Portman Road shop will open on Sundays from 14th February.

Makes good business sense, given the market and the sway of people moving to internet shopping.

It's a shame that ITFC won't have a presence in Ipswich town centre. I often buy tickets in that Planet Blue store, as do other people. I am sure they have done their sums, but it seems a pity that there is nowhere in the town centre selling and promoting the sale of match tickets to try to bolster the Portman Road attendances.

Understand the internet taking custom but I think its a shame it was nice to pop in there now you will have to make the trip to PR and before anyone says anything its too busy on match days

Bad news whether it's making money or not the club should have a presence in the town centre. I would argue they ought to have moved into a bigger store on the main street instead of being tucked away in the Buttermarket Centre.
It was always going to happen once the Bury St Edmunds shop closed. I thought they were supposed to be raising their profile all across the county.

I can see all the reasons for this but one place they should open a shop is here in Lowestoft...Norwich dont have one and with so many props empty in the street I sure they could open a very profitable shop here even if only on Fridays and Saturdays...really think it would raise the profile up here ahead of the Er"competition".

I'm surprised it stayed open so long. There's never anyone in there when i've wandered past.
As for match day tickets, nobody is getting a ticket on the off chance, just because they happen upon the store.

just goes to show everyone is feeling the pinch, disappointing

The Shop at the Stadium is far better but it is a little off tangent from the average browse around the Town

I've no doubt they'll open a few back up when we're back in the Premiership

Interesting point on Lowestoft whoever mentioned it, Lowestoft is Suffolk's second largest Town and surely a huge strategic foothold between Ipswich and Norwich

We're missing a trick big time!

Perhaps in the Prem we'll branch out, shops in Bury, Woodbridge, Lowestoft and Colchester def info :p

Come on, who cares!? The store at the stadium is ten times bigger and ten times better... and it's only 10 minutes walk from the centre, people can't be that lazy.

Nah! DOWSON they will just ship what is not sold into the big warehouse for internet sales. The biggest problem is there is only so much stuff you want/need. How many T-shirts, ties, hats scarfs etc does any fan need.
