Loan Bid for Hull Veteran Turned Down?
Loan Bid for Hull Veteran Turned Down?
Saturday, 23rd Jan 2010 23:48

Town are reported to have failed in a loan bid for Hull City’s Kevin Kilbane. The Irish international left-back or left midfielder is now being linked with a £400,000 move to Celtic, with Bolton also reported to be interested.

The Blues are looking for a left-back during the transfer window with Celtic’s Lee Naylor understood to be a target. According to today's reports, Roy Keane made an enquiry regarding Kilbane joining Town until the end of the season last week but was rebuffed.

KIlbane, 32, who is believed to be on £25,000-a-week, a wage which is likely to be double what any player at Portman Road earns, looks more likely to be on his way to Celtic or Bolton than Town.

Meanwhile, former Blue Shefki Kuqi’s move from German side Koblenz to Swansea is back on with the Finnish international’s representatives holding talks with the Swans late last week.

Does Kilbane's potential transfer spell the end for Lee Naylor's chances at Celtic :p

I'd prefer Naylor to Kilbane, he's still the right side of 30 and would give us a better long term service

why are we singing this pensioner?

Please Roy, a striker to take chances (and inject some pace to our front line if possible) before adding more defenders / midfielders. Kevin Phillips is hardly getting a kick at Birmingham, why not give it a go? I know Phillips doesn't have the pace I would like but he may make up for that with knowhow and timing. The transfer window, a usual, has been a massive disappointment so far and has-beens like Kilbane do not inspire me.

Look at the latest poll! Everyone knows we need a striker and need one urgently. Why-o-why are we being linked with geriatric defenders all the time?

we asked about a loan so if we got him he would provide cover untill the summer when we would look again at signing a younger more long term player. agree we need another striker but kevin phillips maybe a loan but his wages will be too high and i dont think he is what we need. priskin is what we need someone who will get in behind defences with pace but unfortuneatly priskin is proving a flop

Agree with others - a striker is a must. Was not impressed with John yesterday. He will surely return to Palace?

That must be a joke!

Come on Keano, you can do better than that.

Zinedine Kilbane is prob the luckiest footballer to play in the Prem, he has never been better than Championship standard but coz he's got prem experience clubs take him & pay him well for it. According to a poll last week he has been in more losing prem games than any other footballer & that's coz he is SH*T

I actually think Kilbane's an underestimated player (rather like Lee Carsley was at Everton). He can play full back or across the midfield (I remember him as MOTM against France for the Republic in Paris during a world cup qualifier, where he played central midfield), so he would be useful.

Also, we lack a really experienced figure in midfield. Old heads are needed to get you promoted. I believe we went for Boateng earlier in the season?

Why dont we try playing David Wright at left back again ,as since he has been dropped again we have started letting in again ?

I agree Surco72, Wright to be recalled for WBA game, Peter's to replace Edwards & Stead & Counago to start up front. As dissapointing to drive home after yesterdays defeat we MUST all focus on backing the boys for the next 2 home games and the remainder of the season. Keane is building something special and sadly its takes longer than we all wish & would like but for sure we will get there. Here's to 3 points against WBA!

Oh dear why would we buy another potential reserve player. Maybe to keep Lee Martin company

Surely the most shocking thing about the story is that Kilbane is on £25k per week.

That's shocking, especially for a shocking player.

bedsitfc, Phillips wages would not be that high now they are subsidised by his pension.

We're only being linked AGAIN, it doesn't mean we're even interested. Now everybody calm down and take a deep breath.
