Sheffield Wednesday Watching Pablo
Sheffield Wednesday Watching Pablo
Wednesday, 27th Jan 2010 22:12

TWTD has learned that Sheffield Wednesday are keeping a close eye on Town striker Pablo Couñago. The Owls were represented at Tuesday’s home game against West Brom with the Spanish striker the subject of their interest.

Wednesday recently appointed former Blues keeper-coach Andy Rhodes to their backroom staff, a man who will know Couñago well from his time working at Portman Road.

The 30-year-old, who is contracted to Town until 2011, has been in and out of Roy Keane’s side this season, making eight starts and nine sub appearances and scoring three goals.

In the summer, the Blues accepted an offer from Swansea for Couñago but the ex-Malaga and Celta Vigo man couldn’t agree personal terms with the Welsh club and he remained at Town.

Meanwhile, Burnley have signed central defender Leon Cort from Stoke for £1.5 million. The ex-Southend man was linked with the Blues and a number of other clubs earlier today.

I really like Pablo because you know he really can be that "match-winner", sadly he just doesn't produce it enough.

Pablo scores one goal in 10 everyone loves him, next game swans around like he doesn't care, im sorry don't want these players playing he has had his chance, for all you fans who go to the home games, watch him away from home and you will see why he doesn't play every week.

If Pablo & Priskin on way out does this mean FINALLY we have a 20 goal a season striker (or 2) coming in??????????

What great news! let Counago & Priskin go, they've both proved they aren't up to it, lets get a couple of new strikers in, they can't do any worse!!

Can people stop mentioning Pablos scoring record? Yes, he is a striker but his play is all about hold-up and bringing others into the game. Play to his strengths and he makes a huge difference to the team and will set goals up.

Admit to not having seen him away much and can accept that he may be lazy away from home, but it may also be that away tactics don't play to his strengths (more hoofs, less methodical passing play).

He isn't a 'run around a lot' striker and to criticise him for that misses the point. I wouldn't expect Walters to be full of finesse and guile so I won't criticise him for not having it. So why criticise Pablo for not getting stuck in and running around a lot?

He has skill. More than anyone else in the team I'd suggest and to lose him completely without a proper replacement would be a bad thing indeed.

Yes Pablo has something to contribute but we need a finisher to stick it in the net and our whole season is going up the river cause the strikers that we have arent doing that.I really am worried that nobody wants to come to the club because they are afraid of their richard wright of keano.

naa you say you don't watch ipswich away from home (but we play more hoofs, less methodical passing play), rediculus comment to say. If we don't replace him or priskin yes that would be silly to be a striker down but when we play i would much rather have players who want to play for the club put themselves about the pitch and are scoring goals, players like leadbitter, walters who show that they are for this club giving 100%, shane supples comments when he left hit the nail on the head for me when he said that there are players at the club who thought they were going to get picked everyweek no matter how well they played, i believe this included counago.
I'm not denying he does hold the ball up well but if the ball is 5 yards away from him you wont see him closing down to try and get it back. The only time ive seen this was when he came on against coventry when for me its one of the only things he has done all season, i dont believe it would be a big loss, hopefully keane will have a replacement for either counago or priskin. I would still like to see priskin given a chance as he was in the side when we were playing poor, but i think keane has seen enough from him. I personally don't know where this striker is going to come from but we need a fast paced striker who is going to bag the goals we have been saying it for years but hopefully keane can find him
1.Sylvian Ebanks Blake is a brave shout but he isnt getting in at wolves low on confidence and could be sent on loan to get back his goalscoring ability also originates from the cambridge area.
2. David Healy, Daryl Murphy is not the answer sunderland link again
3. League 1 Simeon Jackson at Gillingham fast paced striker Charlie Austin at swindon (Jordan Rhodes no comment)
4. Craig Mckail Smith at peterborough puts himself around captain of peterborough who knows what is going to happen lets wait and see and support the team whatever happens as long as colin healy doesn't get recalled from his loan.

Pablo has scored 2 goals in last three games and still he is slated on here because of Tuesday nights performance when our midfield were totally outplayed and overun. He has scored 3 times in 8 starts as a second striker this is a good ratio for anyone and any team .

Would much rather Priskin went than Pablo , Priskin has started against Barnsley,Reading,Peterboro,Sheff Weds and had at least 25 mins against Derby,Coventry and Saints if he cant score against the worst sides in the league its not going to happen against the top ones ,and to those saying he hasnt been given a chance he has started more games than Pablo and only three less than Stead

I'm a fan of Pablo's skill and guile, but not his work-rate. I can only imagine that any club coming in for him would recognise that he is probaly not the answer to their scoring problems, but would want him for his ability to hold up the ball and thread through accurate passes (and wind-up the opposition).

The question is, don't we need those attributes too?
